When compared with Islam, it is obvious how different Christianity is. Islam is a religion with a capital R. It is about unquestioning obedience to what purports to be divine law. There is no theological development in Islam. Christianity is really about the unmasking of what we now know as religion. This produces a freedom from all religiosity, all idols, all gods. It is a mistake to think that fundamentalism represents Christianity. The temptation for us all is to become religious and that includes the secularist who claims the ascendancy of reason. Dig a bit below the surface and you will find the same old tired idols, the same fear of death, the same human triumphalism and belief in progress. That is why it is only radical Christianity that will truly set us free.

I think Hadanelith summed it up rather well.
I would just add that Sells has no right to speak for my beliefs. In my beliefs you will find no idols, tired or otherwise, and, while not anxious for death, I am not afraid of death.
Also, freedom from all religiosity and freedom from all gods makes for non -Christianity. It would certainly have to be "radical Christianity" to be free of God/Jesus.
triumphalism
Is this anything like hephalumps and woozles??

That's not Christianity, that's atheism. It was our idea first.

Radical Christianity involves blowing up abortion clinics and ESCR labs as opposed to killing civilians... oh wait. :p
No, that's reactionary Christianity.
Welcome to American Taliban , where the only religion allowed is our brand of Christianity, women and children have no rights, and any dissent is punishable by death.
Jihad!
This has got to be worth a solid nomination for the "Most Knowledgeable Critique of Another Religion" Award. He refers to both Islam and "secularism," and he gets neither one right; heck, he doesn't even get his OWN right in the comparison, so perhaps the word "Another" could just be dropped from the award name on this one!

McCulloch, I think that when he was saying "Islam is a religion with a capital R," I think he meant "Religion," not Rslam. Why this description does not fit Christianity in the minds of some fundies, however, continues to elude me.

Religion in a nutshell award?
More like religion in a nutjob, if you ask me.

Hello? Is that CERN? Yes, I'm afraid that all those billions of Euros spent to build the LHC were to no avail, unfortunately. Someone called 'Sells' has come up with an infinitely more powerful way of generating the energy needed to create the exotic particles required to find the Higgs-Boson. It merely entails getting all the irony meters in the world arranged in a circular pattern, and saying something at them. It results in them all exploding instantaneously, resulting in a sub-dimensional field vortex that creates a new form of matter, called Hypocrisium. Which is so dense, that no amount of reason & logic can penetrate it. But it ultimately collapses in on itself, as the gravity of it's situation results in massive amounts (OVER 9000, according to our scouters) of FAIL radiation.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
