In the Christian worldview, death and suffering make sense; they are a partial taste of the punishment we all deserve for our high treason against God. It’s a wonderful example of justice. A better question would be, “Why is it that only some people suffer only some of the time, when we are all wicked sinners?” The answer involves God’s mercy. Remember, God only punishes the wicked (with one exception – and He volunteered).

I'm with you. Jesus Christ is a category all his own!

I think Jesus should be separated from the regular Bible stuff. He's universal. He's the Pagan Sun God, He's Lucifer, He's Vishnu, He's The Buddha, The Logos, The Yang...He's an activist, visionary, rebel, humanitarian, seer, sage, mystic, guru, holy man, philosopher, well...one all-around righteous dude!

One can see him as a Gnostic figure, a guy who re-booted & reinvented Judaism & Abrahamism into something far more noble, Progressive & universal, or something different entirely. Sure, he quoted scripture & even endorsed a few of it's points but that's because that's all the people understood.

I think I'll modify my beliefs to "ChristoGnostic NeoPagan".

This counterdicts my last post in some areas but I'm sticking with it.

I also interpret Gnosticism differently, reinterpreting things in a qualified monist fashion & seeing the Demiurge as a mere metaphor. An archetype of "Corrupt Power Hungry Tyrannical Deity".

As far as Deity Pantheons are concerned, I respect the Egyptian & Hindu Pantheons. Pantheons like the Greco-Roman are too Demiurgic.

All Pantheons have flawed characters but some are much more flawed than others.

But they're all merely culture-based symbols & cosmic metaphors, anyway.

I wonder if the Greeks used high treason of Zeus to not have a shred of altruism. I'm thinking the most bloodthirsty Vikings had at least half of the altruism Jesus taught about which Christians are bereft of, at least they didn't use Odin as an excuse to not have a shred of concern about the welfare of others.

God only punishes the wicked

Right, innocent children are wicked.

Why is it that only some people suffer only some of the time, when we are all wicked sinners?

Why is it that God created an incurable mind control parasite(T. gondii) that makes people suicidal and kill themselves? Isn't suicide a sin and isn't God forcing many people to sin? Why does God create an incurable mind control parasite to violate our free will so that we kill ourselves but not create an incurable mind control parasite that forces us to be incapable of sinning, peaceful and nonviolent? If your God does exist he is a demiurge, proof that he exists would only make him more repulsive to me.

'We all'? Sir, dare not to so much as think to presume you have the right to speak for all people. After all, not everyone is a Christain such as you, therefore if others not exactly like you don't share your so-called 'worldview' - and as 'Sin' is purely a Christian concept that only applies to Christains such as you Jase - ergo the only ones who 'deserve' punishment by 'death and suffering' are the likes of you.

Luke 14:26: 'If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters - yes, even his own life - he cannot be my disciple.'
