I just got in an eMail - for the umpteenth time - a thing about "lessons for 2008" from the Dali Lama that's "pertinent whatever your religious beliefs."
The advice may be good, but frankly, as a Christian, I don't give a darn what he has to say, nor do I wish to promote his beliefs in any way. Needless to say, I deleted it without reading it, and certainly did not "read quietly then send it along on its journey, and within 96 hours something amazing will happen." [angry smiley] Just the very thought that someone who purports to be a Christian would even send me something to affect my "karma" annoys the heck out of me.
I've asked people over and over to NOT send me this junk. I'm trying to compose a good, Scripture-laded response to send to them and hopefully make them realize that believing in and promoting this garbage is witchcraft.
What would each of you respond?

As a tolerant individual and someone who respects the Dali Lama, I would read what he had to say and take it into consideration before deciding what the disposition of my actions would be. Unfortunatley you abidinginvie (WTF) are merely just another intolerant self righteous boob in a long line of them over there at RR.
Re: Dalai Lama:
Not all good people are Christians. Not all Christians are good people. Get over it.
Hell, most fundies are quick to parrot that getting into Heaven isn't dependant on 'good works' (ignoring the bit of the bible which says exactly that), but on accepting Jesus. But it wouldn't be necessary to point this out if there weren't people who hadn't doing good works in the first place.
That he doesn't share your religion does not make everything he says wrong, irrelevant or stupid (if this site is anything to go by, the opposite is true), and you'd have to be pretty insecure in your beliefs to be swayed from them by an email, wouldn't you?
Re: Chain-mail:
Yup, people who send mails asking the recipients to 'pass it along' are totally devoid of brains, goodness or any redeeming feature aren't they?
"but frankly, as a Christian, I don't give a darn what he has to say, nor do I wish to promote his beliefs in any way"
Of course you wouldn't. You're faith is far too tolerant, open-minded, and accepting of other human beings and perspectives to waste its time with such rot as paying attention or considering other people's points of view.

The cycle of karma at work...
The amazing thing is, after 96 hours of making the rounds, it comes back 100-fold!
Oh yeah...I toss all the christian garbage that hits my mailbox without reading it, so I'm with you there.
Yanno, if you had bothered to read with the Dalai Lama had written, you would have recognised it as in the same vein as the preachings of the Historical Jesus. But that would mean you would have to pull your head out of your ass long enough for your brain cells to get fully oxygenated.
As a Penn & Teller fan, I'm not that impressed with the Dali Lama myself. I can actually understand where this fundie is coming from, I hate being bombarded by idiotic chain letters full of mystical new age nonsence as well. That said, mystical new age nonsence does not usually threaten non-believers with eternal torture, so it is preferable over monotheistic religion.

Which of these conflict with scripture? Which one isn't some platitude you'd hear from Creflo Dollar? What kind of practical advice does scripture actually offer you about everyday life? Don't screw your mother-in-law or your daughter-in-law? Don't eat shellfish? Don't grab your husband's opponent's testicles when he's in a fight? Don't let your ox gore people? Don't steal somebody's slave?
I would read it then contimplate it's worth in regards to my life. If I found it important then I would apply it, but if I found it not to be of worth (highly unlikely, since this is the Dali Lama we are talking about), then I would dismiss it.
You should not turn a blind ear to wisdom when if it is given freely no matter who it comes from.
Then I sincerely hope that the next time you decide to "minister to the unfaithful", and they tell you to go fuck yourself(and some of them will), that you will remember this little email episode and try not to be a complete fucking moronic hypocrite.
"What would each of you respond?"
I'm a Rapture Retard, please do not send me anything peaceful, enlightening, or rational as I prefer to hate anything that is not sprinkled with scripture.
the RR bunch is little better than a "wank" circle.
They stroke each others' egos, and prejudices, and hopes for rapture to the point of fundie-babbling orgasm.
Sad really, except the contribute little to the world, are entirely self-centred, and presume to judge everyone else.
Typical fundies really
I find it very doubtful the Dali Lama himself is sending you chain mails . . .
That being said, the man just seems to radiate peace and love. Something the historical Jesus, as recorded in the Gospels, very well could have been like.
It's probably safe to say he wouldn't act like anyone who posts at Rapture Retards.
good thing you deleted it without even reading it. you dang dali lama and your voodoo! wanting good things to come to people regardless of their religious beliefs! dang you to hades!!!!
but seriously, i don't know how to respond to this. i really don't care about the dali lama myself, but proclaiming proudly that you didn't even read the damn thing, WTF??? why are you fundies so damn proud of your fucking ignorance? when is stupidity EVER a virtue? (rhetorical question).
Wait a minute. Here (s)he says:
"...I deleted it without reading it..."
but then (s)he goes on to say:
"...and certainly did not "read quietly then send it along on its journey, and within 96 hours something amazing will happen.""
Can you fit all that in a single subject line of an email? It's just that it sounds an awful like abidinginwotsit's idea of "deleting without reading" actually means "read it, then maybe delete it and go complain about it at Rapture Ready while inadvertently quoting the email I say I didn't read".
Who is this "Dali Lama"?
I know some of the teachings of the 14th _Dalai_ Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, and find a lot of correspondence between them and Christian doctrine. Probably explains why he gets on so well with Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
I am also quite certain that he himself was not sending you chain-emails.
I'm opposed to any kind of chain e-mails because they are annoying! Karma is in the Bible...it's just phrased differently. Galatians 6:7 "Be not deceived, God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." Sounds like the basic concept of karma, no?
Confused?
