The head of the Russian Orthodox Church has partially blamed an increased acceptance of homosexuality for the rise of Isis.
Patriarch Kirill claimed he was not surprised that some Muslims are flocking to Isis' quasi-religious state as a way of escaping the “godless civilization” that celebrates events such as Gay Pride.
In an interview published on the Church’s official website, Kirill said: “[Isis] is creating a civilization that is new by comparison to the established one that is godless, secular and even radical in its secularism.”
“We can have parades for the sexual minorities - that is supported - but a million French Christian protestors defending family values are broken up by police,” he added.
Kiril said because the “godless civilization is reaching maturity”, it should come as no surprise that those who are opposed to liberal, secular ideas end up joining terror organisations.
“If you call non-traditional relationships a sin, as the Bible teaches and you are a priest or pastor, then you risk not only your ability to serve but you may be sent to prison,” he said.

It would appear that ISIS is the new Nazis. That is, instead of comparing anything and anyone you don't like to the Nazis, now we have ISIS.
Because I really don't think they're a gay-friendly, secular, liberal organization.
radical in its secularism

Well, neither were the Nazis. But that hasn’t stopped people to call them all of the above
WHAT IS IT WITH THESE IDIOTS THINKING THAT ISLAMOFRUMS SUPPORT HOMOSEXUALITY?!!! DAESH GRABS GAY PEOPLE AND TOSSES THEM OFF TALL BUILDINGS, FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD!!!
EDIT: Read it again. This guy isn't saying that. He's saying that LGBTs are scaring bigots into Daesh's claws. My bad. Still stupid, though.
Citation for that French Christian parade that was broken up, please? Family values aren't threatened, by the way; most families in the Western World are made up of husband, wife and about 1,7 children.
People don't have to go as far as to join Daesh to get away from civil rights; you just have to go to Russia, Saudi Arabia or Turkey (to just name three anti-human-rights example).
As long as you call it a sin, you're fine, you're only using the liberal secular idea of freedom of religion. If you say they're a danger to society, and ought to be banned/imprisoned/killed, then you have made it political and are risking firstly your tax-exempt status. You're still just using the liberal secular idea of freedom of speech, though, it's not until you actively plan to ban, imprison, beat up or kill people that you're committing a crime and might be sent to prison.
When some people are afforded MORE rights than they had before, there's a tendency to think that means fewer rights for others. But for clergymen, the "upper crust" of the church, it is a rebuke. It is a reminder to them that there are LIMITS to their sphere of influence, and they don't really like to be reminded of that.....
If you sincerely believe that, you failed at everything you just failed everything you discussed. Daesh has been killing homosexuals, the west intervention in Middle East led to groups like Daesh. Daesh is opposed to secularism, people join terrorist organisations probably due to the ideology or being pushed into it or both or other reasons.

Shame about Turkey. Modern Turkey had been known as the only Muslim/Islamic society that was actually modern with a secular government. Seems that they either weren't all that as much as we thought or the IslamoFrums are messing stuff up.
I for once would LOVE to see a Progressive society STAY Progressive even in the toughest times and even become MORE Progressive as a response. People need to learn how to cope with their fears better and realize that Far-Right stuff only makes things worse.
When Progressive values are embraced and everyone reaches out to everyone, a society stays strong and recovers.
Learn some reading comprehension, people.
At no point did Kiril say that ISIS is a gay-friendly organization. Quite the opposite, in fact. He's saying that ISIS was formed, at least in part, in opposition to the increasingly gay-friendly attitudes of modern, "godless" society. Read it again:
"Kiril said because the “godless civilization is reaching maturity”, it should come as no surprise that those who are opposed to liberal, secular ideas end up joining terror organisations."
OPPOSED to liberal ideas. Meaning not in support of. Kiril is not claiming that ISIS supports gay people, in fact he's stopping just short of *praising* ISIS for their attitudes and possibly their actions as well.
"Obviously ISIS is evil, but I can see why it would be appealing to people who hold the same values and opinions that I do"
So... congratulations on admitting that you're on the side of evil.
Same-sex marriage legalised in Holland; the legislation even ratified by a referendum in early-mid 2001, in which 85% of the Dutch population approved of such.
Soft drug use tolerated & legal brothels with sex-a-go-go in their capital Amsterdam. Yet not one terrorist attack there.
Holland is still a mainly Protestant country; King William of Orange, and all that jazz.
Quite the paradox, eh Pattyarse Killyourself?
Ah, the Russian Orthodox Church, that bastion of wonderful people. I think it's time for another anti-religious campaign early Soviet style against them.
Kiril said because the “godless civilization is reaching maturity”, it should come as no surprise that those who are opposed to liberal, secular ideas end up joining terror organisations.
Could be worse. They could join the Russian Orthodox Church and follow the orders of assholes like Patriarch Kirill and people who agree with him. Those are arguably worse, because they aren't immediately hostile and violent like ISIS members who you can shoot on sight. You need to take special measures to deal with those people.

Show me where anyone defends Chinese human rights records besides PR China and their media.
Speaking of theocracies, what do you think about pre-PR China Tibet, by the way?
@#1913195
As usual you people leave Russia off the hook when it comes to its human rights violations. Oh wait it is not a democracy*, so obviously it is okay for it to consistently rank among the lowest in the world in this regard.
Otherwise Vlad Putain would now be in jail for his unjustifiable homophobic policies. Also his Hitler-esque annexation of Crimea. And worse besides:

PROTIP: Vlad Putain is Russian Orthodox Christian too:

It's said that Alexander Litvinenko was poisoned via Polonium because he knew about Putain's paedophilia. Now give us one good reason why this theory shouldn't be credible?
*- There's an extremely good reason why The US only allows it's elected presidents two terms of office.
"“If you call non-traditional relationships a sin, as the Bible teaches and you are a priest or pastor, then you risk not only your ability to serve but you may be sent to prison,” he said."
While the muslim towelheads run amuck outside and free because they support gay rights.

Then wouldn't ISIS be in prison along with those pastors, thus eliminating the danger - or something?
Confused?
