Some of the smart christians are actually beneficial. Some of them support the sciences, including embryo studies to find cures for diseases, some of them think of genesis as allegorical (non-literal), or at least think that 6 'days' may be 6 ages, and support the teaching of evolution. Many mainline and liberal christians are supportive of the arts, literature, social studies and sciences. A lot of them are supportive of the environment, allow women clergy, allow gay clergy, are against the death penalty, don't have tithing and support Democrats or even Green Party candidates.
Well, I used to be surprised, but not anymore. Sad and a little sick to my stomach, but not surprised.
Julian you sound jealous. It amazes me how someone can hate something they claim not to believe in as much as people like yourself hate Christianity. As for judging people, you don't know me, you don't know how much education I have had, you are just bitter and disillusioned because I have something that you are determined to never have.

And you have called for the torture and imprisonment of people who, despite being of the same faith as you, disagreed with your stance regarding foreign policy. If you cannot recognize this as forcing your beliefs upon another (Or at least having a desire to force your beliefs upon another) you have no buisiness attempting to debate morals.
If you don't want people to disagree with you, don't post your opinions on the Internet.

This is true, unfortunately, these christians are few and far between. One can only hope for more liberal minded christians; the conservative ones give the religion a bad name.
Rev., I respect your sentiments. I know in today's world, it seems like fundamentalist chrisianity is THE dominant form of Christianity. Between Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Benny Hinn, anchors of the Fox News Channel, plus others in the media, it seems as though other forms are virtually non-existent. The reason why people feel that fundamentalist Christianity, and Fundy Islam, as well as fundy versions of other beliefs are the only or at least majority versions of their religions is because of their extensive press.
Most of the fundamentalist big shots get the press because they are essentialy carnival barkers who shout outrageous and often hateful things like "We must assasinate Chavez", "God Hates Fags", "non-christians are failed human beings", "all non-muslim infidels must die", etc. These type of quotes are highly emotional responses, defines 'good guys' and 'bad guys' and make for good entertainment. The standard followers of said religions are usually far less radical, as a result, the media considers them less exciting, which continues the vicious cycle. Have you noticed how much press an extremist like Fred Phelps gets? One would think he is in charge of a megachurch based on news reports alone, except for the fact that they state that his Westboro Baptist Church basically consists of his family, plus a few others. I will concede that fundamentalism is bigger than an ordinary cult, but because of the way they grab attention, their numbers are greatly exaggerated, and they are by no means a majority of americans or even american christians (less than 40%). Worldwide, they are less than 9% of christians.
Now that I'm not a christian, I'm not surprised at the pure stupidity of some christians. I have a feeling, however, that mamacags was refering to those who aren't conservative/fundamentalist/dispensationalists. But she'd be surprised to find out that she falls into the category of "stupid christians". No, I'm not surprised anymore. Just saddened.

Actually, looking at posts by all the members of Ruptured Retards, I'm not surprised in the slightest. By definition, the good, decent Christians/Muslims/Pagans/Buddhists/Agnostics/etc on FSTDT aren't stupid though.

Surprised? Not at all; we have a whole website here filled with religious stupidity. Not just Christians, either.
But yes, not all Christians are stupid. The moderates are mostly reasonable and intelligent.
