(part of a longer arguement about the second amendment)
"Indeed. What good would any of that do against tanks, bombers, and so forth?"
Straw-man. I affirm military privatisation.
In other words, I believe that the people should be allowed to possess the same weapons as the government possesses.
"who do you envision purchasing enough tanks and fighter jets and such to fight the US government on equal terms?"
Do you understand what a free market even is?
"Nukes?"
If the governmental authorities have them, yes.

Does newenglandsun know how much tanks and fighter jets cost?
Where are you going to store your arsenal of nuclear weapons, tanks, chinooks and warships? How are you going to keep them secret from the prying eyes of the statist menace? How are you going to afford this? How are you going to keep your transactions secret?
"Nukes?"
Yes! If I had a nice big a-bomb, my neighbor would think twice about letting his dog crap all over my lawn, yessurrie Bob. And if the town wants to fine me for burning leaves in fall, lettem come, I'll have a surprise ready for them.
I agree that the regular citizen should be able to possess the same as the military. I just wonder how the regular citizen is going to afford a fighter jet and it's ammo. I mean an F-15 costs around $100,000,000 a plane. I certainly can't afford something like that on an average income.
If you read between the lines he's arguing for oligarchy or at least something akin to a dictatorship of robber barons as feudal warlords, like the 20s but less restrained. He wants Triangle Shirtwaist factories on every corner and a fire in them every day to punish people for the crime of being poor.
In the event of sales of all weapons being deregulated, it won't be private citizens acquiring tanks, bombers and fighter jets. Or nukes. (I just typed 'nikes'.)
It would probably start with oil companies, then work its way down to McDonalds and Burger King having a war in Brazil.
Heavy machine guns and rocket launchers would be bought by a few rich aficionados, though organised crime groups would be the real beneficiaries. Terrorist atrocities would continue but would simply be buried in the avalanche of violence.

The 'Corporate Wars': the initial setting - or after such - in the film "Rollerball".
Someone clearly hasn't seen the "RoboCop" films.
Whole cities owned by corporations? What next: entire countries ? Why not just go the whole hog: everything controlled by corporations.
I know who would be the first to relate to James Caan's character Jonathan E, methinks.
...oh, and better not watch the film "Colossus: The Forbin Project" if you know what's good for you, newenlargedglandscum.
I for one would welcome our new AI overlord.
Information is the new weapon these days; Cyberattacks by China & North Korea. The DoD's research into Artificial Intelligence. Better start learning about Algorithms then, OP.
Look, children! It's a fucktard exhibit! They've largely died off in the wild. Not that their numbers were ever very high with their exceptionally poor survival instincts. Now they're mostly only found in preserves & exhibits like this one. Get a picture with it now, kids, because there's no guarantee that this particular breed will be around when you're all grown up.
Ah! Don't get too close the glass, Billy! They get very nerv- oh no! There he goes! Annnnd he just slammed his head against the rock. On purpose. I think he's dea- okay his bowels just voided. Yep. He's dead. ... no, wait. He's getting back up. And now he's wallowing in his mess. Must be a dominance display.
I don't like this zoo. Lets just go get a pizza.
Good gods, why do you guys even need so many weapons? Oh, you can't feel awesome otherwise? Get a life, you ass.
“"Nukes?"
If the governmental authorities have them, yes.”
Wait, what? You think that if the government has nukes, the citizens deserve the right to acquire nukes? Based on what?
Nukes are classified. Nukes, or the means to build them, or their operational specifications, are risks to national security if they fall into the wrong hands.
Just checking the headlines for the last month, there are a LOT of hands that are the wrong hands.
Also, all fissionable materials are rented from the Dept. of Energy. The military buys them if we ever set them off.
What are you going to do if the government comes to repossess your nukes for failure to pay your boomboom tax?
Confused?
