If you are a feminist, and you eat meat and dairy products - you should know that you STILL support rape, abuse, child abuse, female oppression, and men who flex their muscles and their dominance over others.

Serious non sequitur. My two hens and a rooster are happy, and if I could afford two cows and a bull, I'd see that they were happy. If I were to engage in home slaughter, at least the victims would only have one bad day, and I fail to see how any of this contributes to rape, patriarchy, child abuse, or the rest of it.
And if I didn't eat meat or dairy products, what then? How would I tolerate the fact that there are animals out there committing rape, abuse, abuse of their young, oppression of females and male dominance? And that doesn't even include the animals humans normally eat. And why are you imposing your human ethical values on animals?
Not sure if they are referring to the fact that in agriculture work day laborers/undocumented workers are abused and raped by corrupt executives in charge. Though, guessing not, considering abuses, oppression, and rape are common in all industries that take advantage of workers who do jobs nobody else wants to do. Or are they saying that the production and consumption of animal protein supports the patriarchy?
Plenty of animal abuse and unkindness goes on in both modern and traditional farming. Just say that. Stating that raising veil calves is "child abuse" doesn't exactly get your point across. At all.
My dog is supporting rape, abuse, child abuse, female oppression, and men who flex their muscles and their dominance over others? Who knew.
...Is this aseasonedplateofmurder or something? Sounds just like her. Wicked vegetarian, radical feminist... All she needs to do is say that she believes that watching a cow get milked is BDSM, and it's her under a different name.
That makes no sense whatsoever.
Here's something that's always confused me about Vegans: What's their beef with milk and cheese? Milk is specifically produced by a female body for the nourishment of their young. Consumption is directly and irrefutably the entire reason for milk to exist. It's all the young of most living creatures can subsist on before they mature. This isn't some dipshit analogy about women only existing to get pregnant or anybody being entitled to a part of her body it's a fact of biology. What could possibly be morally objectionable about it? For that matter, what do they feed their own newborns if not their mother's milk? Do they punish them any time they follow their instincts and go for a nipple? What's the logic there?
@creativerealms: eggs are not chicken abortions.
not unless they're fertilized, which most eggs are not. your average egg is a hen's menses.
(i have four backyard chickens and more eggs than i can scramble. they're fun to keep, but don't get the "prolific layer" breeds unless you're really fond of eggs.)
Passerby:
Okay to answer your question, Vegans feel that it's wrong for humans to have any form of ownership or in any way use anything animals produce because 'they're not ours'.
I've also heard 'because they weren't made for us to use', which is silly because all domesticated animals WERE made for us to use. By us.
Ashley is trying to equate hens and cattle with women and children, and equate the egg and dairy industry with rape and child abuse.
I have to agree that for the most part, the meat, egg, and dairy industry is pretty awful. Factory farms have been shown to be horrific to the animals, which are abused and neglected in the interest of profit.
However I haven't managed to get a proper answer to why they're opposed to the eggs/milk themselves (supposing they were gotten from happy, spoiled animals) rather than just to the horrible farm industry and the governments that allow those conditions to continue.
I'm not sticking my hand in that snake's nest again, though. Way too much anger there.
“If you are a feminist,”
Check.
“and you eat meat and dairy products”
Check, check.
“you should know that”
I think you mean “i accuse you of” But go ahead…
“you STILL support rape, abuse, child abuse, female oppression, and men who flex their muscles and their dominance over others.”
Yes, but not of raping females in my own gene pool.
No sane definition of ‘feminism’ begins to suggest that i want to extend the same rights i enjoy to females of other species. We do not extend citizenship to cattle. They cannot sign contracts. They also can’t be prosecuted for trespassing or theft if they climb over a fence and eat my neighbor’s grain. _I_ can get sued, but they’re not viewed as legal equals.
The efforts of vegans to shock and horrify meat-eaters into their ideology is probably the best reason i have to not become a vegan. Not willing to risk the chance i’ll start crafting insance and inane arguments like this one for recruiting purposes…
