Actually, when Darwinism is taken away, no philosophy of 'conflict' remains. The three monotheistic religions that most people in the world believe in, Islam, Christianity and Judaism, all oppose violence. All three religions wish to bring peace and harmony to the world, and oppose innocent people being killed and suffering cruelty and torture. Conflict and violence violate the morality that God has set out for man, and are abnormal and undesired concepts. However, Darwinism sees and portrays conflict and violence as natural, justified and correct concepts that have to exist.
For this reason, if some people commit terrorism using the concepts and symbols of Islam, Christianity and Judaism in the name of those religions, you can be sure that those people are not Muslims, Christians or Jews. They are in fact Social Darwinists

The religions which you are most familiar with generally oppose violence unless justified. Justification is a funny concept as it can be defined by those seeking to do something that is otherwise not allowed. That is how Humans throughout history have used books like the Bible to do otherwise awful things. The crusades were a "just" war against heretics, slavery in America was justified by the Bible telling them it was okay, God commanded the rape and deaths of others so it's okay for us to do it/God tells me to do things, etc.
Meanwhile, the peace and harmony thing is debatable. Yes that is one message, but it's not the only one. Christianity often teaches children that it is the only one for the sake of hiding the insanity of the Bible from them. By the time they learn the truth they are in their 20s and indoctrinated in tradition and belief. It's also not told to them how people believe is best to spread that message of peace and harmony. I mentioned the crusades previously and to make a long story short killing people who didn't believe was thought to be a good way to spread the "good word." It happened endlessly throughout history and is the reason for untold millions of deaths.
Sigh, EVOLUTION(not "darwinisim" you dumb fuck) supports a co-operative existence, as that has a higher survival rate.
Now, about the "no true scotsman" fallacy...
Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn "a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law--a man's enemies will be the members of his own household." (Matthew 10:34-36)
Jesus was a Social Darwinist hey? Are you sure about that?
Hey, this is new to me! It means that the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, and the Salem Witch Trials were all caused by Social Darwinists, NOT Christians. We've been wrong all these years!
Well, it would be easier then to say that THEY COMMIT SUICIDE IN THE NAME OF DARWIN. Just for the record, commiting suicide to kill people is not darwinism and neither is saying that homosexuality is a mental illness and it´s wrong because the Bible say so. And be sure that the Jews who masacred the people in Jericoh didn´t do it because they wanted to proove the origin of the spices. In fact, no man kills everbody except virgins(I´m not even sure animals are aware what that means). It´s a scientific theory, which says that the spices evolve in order to fit the environment. Nothing more, nothing else.
This one sure isn't one of Papabear's.
Life is a process of living, growth, death and decomposition. If someone kills in the name of 'life', that doesn't fault the process, it faults the killer. To pretend that life doesn't include growth, living, dying and decomposing isn't going to change anything. It'll still happen.
It's called responsibilty for one's actions, something you seem to not have a grasp of. You're trying to say that if someone commits a crime in the name of jesus christ, they are really 'Darwinists', killing in the name of evolution?
Take responsibility. You and your religions have single-handly done more damage then many diseases and most natural disasters. Saying otherwise isn't going to change it. Religion kills.
Might Stalin have used the Bible to 'justify' his actions if the Orthodox Church wasn't one of the organisations he was persecuting?
"Religions don't kill people! Greed, envy and hatred, however, kill people religiously."
@ Algore
Comrade Joe didn't murder millions of his own in the name of atheism - it was either in the name of himself, of communism, or Russia. Read a history book sometime, they're great fun. You might even (heaven forbid) learn something.
@ DeRacine: Um, no. The Orthodox (and pretty much most other churches, mosques, synagogues, etc.) were indeed one of the organisations persecuted. I don't recall Stalin ever using the Bible to justify anything.
Tiny Bulcher: I think I acknowledged that in my utterly pointless question.
I was trying, ham-fistedly, to say something about how some concepts can be inappropriately hijacked to 'justify' other concepts. Sorry I've not come up with anything as hilarious as Babybear's 'Social Darwinist Terrorists' or Algore's 'Disciple of the Atheist Faith: Pinko Joe Stalin.'
"Meanwhile, Josep Stalin, the greatest mass murderer of all times, who was responsible for the death of 60,000,000 was a disciple of the Atheist Faith . . ."
Still not grasping the concept of atheism are we?
Last I checked, Stalin killed 30 million people, not 60 million.
And Timur the Lame killed more than 60 million people anyways, if I'm not mistaken.
I nominate this one for So Close, Yet So Far Away . 'Cause he's right; at their core, the Big Three do advocate peace, harmony, and brotherhood. Jesus was certainly all about it.
Also, Bobdole, ya used that argument in an earlier post today; once is your limit.
Kinda fixated on Joseph Stalin, aren't we? (By the way, it's OK to use the anglicized version of his first name. We concede that you're an intellectual.) Atheism is not a faith, even if you say it real fast 50 times. Citation for the 60-million?
"Social Darwinism," as it is popularly called, has no more to do with legitimate evolutionary theory than any murderous psychopath's delusions of following God's personal orders have to do with religion -- far less, in fact.
~David D.G.
Clearly there must not have been any violence of conflict before Darwin's theory of natural selection, right?
And though the "big 3" monotheistic religions claim to want peace, that generally means obliterating, subjugating, or otherwise exercising superiority over the other two. And they have no qualms about using violance, murder, torture, etc. to achieve their ends.
Being pro-torture was actually the popular position among republicans during the republican primaries earlier in '08. It was seriously a dark fricking day in America when a political candidate could say they support torture and get thunderous applause.
Wrong. All three Abrahamic religions support and condone violence. Their scriptures are full of acts of violence by both their god and said god's followers. The problem here, is that they don't see acts of violence against non-believers as actually being violence. The so-called "peace" they speak of is peace only for those who follow their fairy tales. It's not actually peace. It's all a facade in order to trick the rational and logical thinking people into thinking that those religions are for the good of humanity, when in fact, they are the opposite.
"All three religions wish to bring peace and harmony to the world, and oppose innocent people being killed and suffering cruelty and torture."
Hahahahahahaha!!!! Oh, stop, please! It's too much! hahahahah!
I would mention the whole 'crusades, inquisition, ' thing, but apparently Catholics fall under 'No True Scotsman'.
However, this isn't shocking to me; I've seen a guy try to defend the Salem Witch Trials by saying that the magistrate of the colony was a Wiccan who was trying to save his own ass.
Revising history; don't try it.
kill the homosexuals, adulterers, fornicators and children who disrespect their parents, infidels and all who renounce the faith.
very peaceful.
First, there is no such thing as Darwinism. There is something called Social Darwinism, which is a far-right-wing idea.
Evolution is just a process of random mutation and natural selection. The Theory describes what IS happening in nature, not what SHOULD happen.
As terrorism can be done in the name of religion, using religious scripture to back it up, then there is something wrong with religion and scripture too.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
