In a book i read, a young woman was raped as a girl. a person asks why god would let that happen to her, and a young man replies that while the rapist was meant for the girl's destruction, she was now able to counsel women who were also raped, and in turn save many people from self harm. you see? god works like that.

What a worthless deity. God, the omnipotent, the omniscient, the God who is deemed to be love itself, has a woman raped so that she can relate to all those raped women she counsels. Can't stop the rapists, but hey, God works like that.
I don't believe God exists, but if he did, why should anyone worship him? Revile, maybe, but worship?
If the rape victim bought a gun and learned how to use it, and shot the rapist dead, and the rapist happened to have been her pastor, would you be saying "god works like that"?
That would also save many people from harm.
"Self harm"?
You need rape so that rape victims to help victims of rape? Circular thinking much?
If the rape victim bought a gun and learned how to use it, and shot the rapist dead, and the rapist happened to have been her pastor, would you be saying "god works like that"?
Could that be precisely what just happened in those two churches that just got shot up? Hypothetically?
Why didn't God make the rapist's dick fall off before he could do anything, rather?
In fact, why did the stupid bastard even create rapists?
And what about all the victims of sexual assault, women, children and yes men too, who do not get help and subsequently engage in self harm? Does your god say, "Screw 'em! My omnipotent self is already doing all I can for them?" Perhaps your god arrange for more rape victims to satisfy the increasing need for helping professionals.
it's truly amazing to me how much effort the Faithful will put into justifying God's actions... Or better, God's complete and total inaction.
Rapes happen, and more rapes happen, and God doesn't do the slightest bit of positive good, but the Faithful can feel good that suffering was part of God's plan, so that someone can be better at helping other people deal with their suffering.
"you see? god works like that."
No. I see that god doesn't work. At all. It's his bleevers that do all the work afterwards, explaining his NOT working.
God is supposed to be infinitely benevolent.
It’s amazing, to me, that people who believe in him purposefully make excuses for him that REAUIRE him to use suffering in order to achieve his goals. And some of his goals are suffering.
Confused?
