Well, I don't see [the gays] being denied anything that
straights are. Straights are not denied
marriage to members of the opposite sex.
Neither are gays. They are just too obstinate
and proud to consider taking that option. It
is not the straight people's fault that gays
are not attracted to members of the opposite
sex.

This always comes up in such debates, the false assumption that homosexuals will gain rights in derogation to the rights of straights. Will fundies ever learn that civil rights are not a zero-sum game? Both straights and homosexuals can enjoy the same rights concurrently. Other than 2,000 year old bigotry, what's to get in the way?
Fine. Name a state that officially recognizes homosexual marriages within the state and allows them to be performed. Not civil unions, not civil partnerships - marriage. And no, you can't pick Massachusetts.
It's not the homosexuals' fault that they are attracted to people of the same gender. It is not their fault that bigoted nutjobs like you impose unfair restrictions on them. When was the last time you saw a homosexual couple kiss, hold hands, even DANCE together in public without people calling them names, snorting in disgust, or rolling their eyes and getting up to leave? No, I'm not talking about gay and lesbian bars; I'm talking about the actual public arena of society.
Go crawl back under the rock you've been living under and stay there.
If I was in charge, everyone would have the same rights: none at all. I mean, there'd be no inequality right? Have you got any really good reasons why you should be able to live, or are you just too obstinate and proud to consider dying like everyone else?
By your own logic then if we allow same sex marriage then the gays won't be given anything Straights won't have. Straights won't be denied to marry the same sex. They are just too oblivious and proud to consider that option.
Adding a new choice for everyone does not take away any choices.
“Well, I don't see [the gays] being denied anything that straights are.”
What a piss-poor sentence. You mean denied anything the straights are granted, I assume?
But they are.
“Straights are not denied marriage to members of the opposite sex. Neither are gays.”
But straights ARE allowed to form a marriage partnership with someone they want to love and cherish. Samesex marriage is the same right, just not so carefully curated to mislead.
“They are just too obstinate and proud to consider taking that option.”
They used to. Used to be a whole lot of sham marriages out there. Men started coming out of the closet in the 70s in big numbers, even with wives and kids, making everyone unhappy by no longer living THE LIE.
It’s not pride, it’s honesty.
“It is not the straight people's fault that gays are not attracted to members of the opposite sex.”
No one is saying it’s your fault that they’re gay. It IS Your fault that you’re denying them equal opportunity to form life-time commitments. Your fault for trying to force them into false partnerships. Your fault for taking THEIR love life as a personal attack on YOU.
Confused?
