[I'm sure there are a handful of individuals in the world who believe in the Christian god, are angry at Him, and call themselves "atheists". Let me be the first to tell you that such individuals are not atheists.]
Nonsense, again. The very fact that they call themselves atheist, as the word means "anti theist", is a testimony of their anger of God and Christians, or any other religion that professes the same. Agnostics have more sense than atheists do. Just, how can a rational individual make these claims:
There is no Deity
The soul doesn't exist
There is no After Life
without admitting that it is just out of spite?
You will observe that the so-called atheist is merely anarchist. Trying to do the impossible against Nature's rule of creating a void. The public has already passed judgement on them. Even in the decline of the Protestant's Religion there hasn't been an increase in atheism. They haven't gain a wind fall and remain at around 8% to 10% of the public. Why do you think that is so? Not many wants to become whining Christians who didn't get want they wanted from Christianity and decided to wage an all out war on the idea. Some even lamented and left atheism to join the rest of mankind.
I recommend posters treat them as vultures. You are not going to convince them because they are not open to reasoning. They only pick on the unprepared. Just turn the tables on them and they will scatter when they see a sign of life.

When did atheism become a political party?
And actually dickwad, the term is a-theist. As in no-god. Not anti-theist.
Grow a brain.
I can understand why FreddieD would be confused about what constitutes atheism, since it's outside his normal experience. However, the bigger problem is that he not only refuses to recognize his confusion, but, on the contrary, phrases his nonsensical assertions as if they were expert knowledge, even to the point of trying to tell an atheist he's something that he knows he isn't. He's either making stuff up or repeating someone else's made-up stuff, rather than getting good information (and in fact refusing it when it's offered to him). That is what I find especially galling about this post.

"There is no Deity
The soul doesn't exist
There is no After Life"
Without any evidence of gods, souls, or an afterlife, the sensible thing to do is assume these things don't exist.
"They haven't gain a wind fall and remain at around 8% to 10% of the public."
The majority of any nation are ignorant and stupid.
Let us examine the use of the preffix "a-":
amoral adjective
1. not involving questions of right or wrong; without moral quality; neither moral nor immoral.
asocial adjective
1. not sociable or gregarious; withdrawn from society.
2. indifferent to or averse to conforming to conventional standards of behavior.
The preffix "a-" is used to mean "The absence of" not "An opposition to". Thus, atheist is defined as:
"The absence of Theism" or "The lack of a belief in God or god(s)"
"There is no Deity
The soul doesn't exist
There is no After Life"
No, no, no! The proper syllable count for a haiku is 5-7-5! It should be:
"There isn't a god
Human souls do not exist
There's no afterlife"
Much better.
Show me evidence of deities, souls, and the afterlife, and I'll probably change my mind. But no evidence=no sale, Freddie. Atheists don't hate your Christian God any more than they hate Isis, Odin, or Vishnu.
The very fact that they call themselves atheist, as the word means "anti theist", is a testimony of their anger of God and Christians, or any other religion that professes the same. The "a" in "atheist" is a Greek and Latin thingie called a 'privative a' . It's a simple logical negation like a ~, ', !, or ¬ used in logic and programming languages.
A-theist means, literally, "not theist" or "non-theist." Whatever it means to be a theist, an atheist is not that.
If you want to express opposition, the Greek prefix "anti-" would be what you're looking for. Yes, what you said the 'a' means is itself a different Greek prefix that means something else. Who'd of thunk it?
EDIT: You learn something new every day! It seems that on top of antitheists being against god (which could be a completely stoic position), misotheists actually hate god.
Just, how can a rational individual make these claims:
There is no Deity
The soul doesn't exist
There is no After Life
without admitting that it is just out of spite? Well, there is no evidence for any of these things. Without evidence, there can be no inference which justifies belief. And not only is belief without evidence therefore irrational (having not been obtained through reason), these particular beliefs are arguably counter to evidence, which makes holding onto them somewhat insane.
You will observe that the so-called atheist is merely anarchist. And communist too? Actually, you will find that most atheists are committed to an ordered society. They follow the laws and engage in politics to that end. (By voting, usually. It seems hard to get elected.)
The public has already passed judgement on them. Which is of no consequence.
Even in the decline of the Protestant's Religion there hasn't been an increase in atheism. Actually there has. Self-described atheists have doubled in number in the United States over the last ten years.
The very fact that they call themselves atheist, as the word means "anti theist"
Incorrect. It means "non-theist". That is all it means.
Just, how can a rational individual make these claims:
There is no Deity
The soul doesn't exist
There is no After Life
Simple. There is no evidence for any of the three items that you claim exist. Without evidence, there is no reason to believe that they exist.
You are not going to convince them because they are not open to reasoning. They only pick on the unprepared. Just turn the tables on them and they will scatter when they see a sign of life.
Mirror, mirror, on the wall ...
Anti-theist means "against God", which would be Satanic. Atheist is without God. You're a-brain, as in, without brain.
Aww, Freddie, you made me cry. Or not. Yes, I know, Freddie, poisoning the well against atheists and telling people how pathetic atheists are (possibly) before they've met any may seem like a brilliant tactic, but it's really quite sordid, and it doesn't make you any more right.
"Nonsense, again."
Thanks for the warning, but when I saw your name I knew it could be nothing else.
"The very fact that they call themselves atheist, as the word means "anti theist","
Atheist does not mean "anti-theist," it means "without theism," that is, without belief in a god. It is much the same as atypical is "not typical," or asexual is "without sex."
"is a testimony of their anger of God and Christians, or any other religion that professes the same."
I am an atheist. We are are not angry at your "God." We don't believe he exists in any way other than in your imaginations. Personally, I am not angry at Christians for their beliefs. I pity them, I am frequently annoyed by them and I fear them as a group when they allow their delusions to influence politics, but I am not angry with them for having ridiculous beliefs.
"Any other religion professes the same" would be the same religion.
"Agnostics have more sense than atheists do."
Agnostics are just atheists who lack courage.
"Just, how can a rational individual make these claims:
There is no Deity
The soul doesn't exist
There is no After Life"
Absolutely rational. How rational can one be who claims the opposite?
"without admitting that it is just out of spite?"
Why would I deny a good, loving God and eternal paradise in heaven if I believed it to be true? Certainly not "out of spite."
"You will observe that the so-called atheist is merely anarchist."
No, observation will not show that. I am an atheist and I am not an anarchist.
As to your "so-called atheist" remark, when will you so-called Christians get it through your thick, little skulls that atheists simple don't believe there IS a god. We don't secretly think God DOES exist, but publically deny it.
"Trying to do the impossible against Nature's rule of creating a void."
Huh? Atheism is not a vacuum, shitwit.
"The public has already passed judgement on them."
You mean the stupid, most deluded segment of Christianity has passed judgement on atheists? I'll grant that's true.
"Even in the decline of the Protestant's Religion there hasn't been an increase in atheism. They haven't gain a wind fall and remain at around 8% to 10% of the public."
Just because a majority of people continue to live in some degree of fantasy does not make their fantasy true.
"Why do you think that is so?"
People cling to religion for many reasons; it's viewed as being laudable or at least socially acceptable, they were brought up believing it, it's comfortable to believe that death is not final, it's pleasant to think that prayer can benefit one in situations where one has little or no real power, etc..
"Not many wants to become whining Christians who didn't get want they wanted from Christianity and decided to wage an all out war on the idea."
I agree. Very few atheists come to atheism that way, though the ineffectiveness of Christianity is part of the evidence against it.
"Some even lamented and left atheism to join the rest of mankind."
Of course, some people can't fight social convention and/or feel too lost or alone without their comforting Christian delusions. It does not mean that because some people returned to Christianity that it is true or that they were correct.
"I recommend posters treat them as vultures."
How magnanimous of you.
"You are not going to convince them because they are not open to reasoning."
Excuse me, but WE are the ones doing the reasoning. YOU and your religious pals are the ones shut out reason. Try to keep that straight.
"They only pick on the unprepared."
There is no way a Christian can be prepared to debate. The evidence just isn't there to support their positions.
"Just turn the tables on them and they will scatter when they see a sign of life."
Huh? We may walk away when we tire of your circular reasoning and lack of evidence, but I don't think most atheists would run from an honest debate.
@themann106
Maltheists are angry at God. Learn your definitions.
I thought it was Misotheists.
Actually, I thought maltheists were people who believed in a malevolent God. Like a lot of fundies, IMO, since their God reportedly runs an eternal hell for some pretty minor "offenses" (homosexuality, believing in scientific evidence, posting on fstdt).
Actually, if I believed in a God that behaved like the fundy deity, I would become an antitheist. Which, for Freddie's information, does not mean "there is no God" (atheist) or "I don't know if there's a God" (agnostic) but "there is a God and I'm going to do everything I can to oppose him, because he's a screaming shithead."

Without any evidence of gods, souls, or an afterlife, the sensible thing to do is assume these things don't exist. If that were true, then it would have been correct for ancient people to believe that black holes didn't exist, because they didn't have sophisticated enough telescopes back then
They haven't gain a wind fall and remain at around 8% to 10% of the public. Truth is not determined by majority (or minority)
They only pick on the unprepared.
Well, yes, but that's such an easy target. If fundies actually prepared, they'd have nothing left to say. Instead, they say stupid stuff like Jesus wasn't Jewish, the dinosaurs perished in Noah's Flood, homosexuals are all child molesters, the Bible is the perfect word of God, anyone who doesn't believe in the King James Bible is an atheist, etc.
They haven't gain a wind fall and remain at around 8% to 10% of the public.
I'll bet the number of people who know why the sky is blue is even lower. Does that mean it's caused by the "waters above the firmament" (Gen. 1:7)?
<< Agnostics are just atheists who lack courage. >>
Uh, Papabear, this statement strikes me as dangerously close to "fundie" itself. Positive-assertion atheism is no more supportable than theism -- in fact, it is technically less so, since it is logically impossible to prove the universal nonexistence of something.
I consider myself an agnostic, though my position is that God is an unproved assertion. I don't think of myself as "lacking courage," but rather as "having prudence."
~David D.G.
If that were true, then it would have been correct for ancient people to believe that black holes didn't exist, because they didn't have sophisticated enough telescopes back then
Black holes weren't necessary to explain the available evidence back then, so yes, it would have been the sensible thing to believe ... unless they had sufficient evidence for a theory (such as general relativity) that makes the existence of black holes plausible. It took quite some time for people to realize that light was affected by gravity, and a black hole (an object with such a strong gravitational pull that not even light can escape) is a nonsensical concept without that knowledge.
The correct conclusion to draw from the available evidence can still be wrong if you don't have all the evidence. Given the evidence the ancients had, there would be no reason for them to believe black holes exist.
Confused?
