I think that separation of church and state is the problem. This is a sick sick world, and to condone the removal of Christ from the same doctrine that was created in His name, "one nation under God" seems horrid to me. If we, as Christ's obedient children stuck with Him instead of allowing sin and degradation of Christ to run rampit, perhaps we wouldn't be in the situation we are in today. Homosexual marriage, premarital sex, telling others it's ok to believe in other gods... NO! It's wrong. I can't wait for Revelations to take place, so the Lord can take us home, and out of this place.

One Nation under God was added in the fifties, almost one hundred years after its foundation. And second, you forget that if you lived, say, in a muslim country, would you be glad if they told you it´s ok to revere your God?. Revelation will not take place today or tomorrow. You have to understand that God is not a watchman and that you have to come into term with what you believe.
The separation of church and state dates back to the founding of our country. "One nation under God" only dates back to the McCarthy era (one of the darkest periods of our country -- when being of the wrong religion or polical affiliation could strip you of your ability to earn a living.)
Our founding fathers weren't Christian. They were deists. It's not the same thing. Christians believe in an inteventionist god. Deist believe that God created the universe, and then left to leave it alone.) That is what the majority of the founding fathers believed.
"I can't wait for Revelations to take place, so the Lord can take us home, and out of this place"
D'you know what? Neither can I, but for difefrent reasons of course.
Mind your own business. Why do you care what other people are doing? It looks to me like you should be devoting some time to doing homework and reading up on the constitution and founding fathers. You see, 'Father' means they were there at the 'birth' of our nation, not that they are priests or something.

So it's not enough for just you to be Christian, everyone else has to as well? Fuck that, sgrimsley. If Jesus wants me to be his BFF, he probably should choose people who aren't complete fuckwits to be his messenger service.
And, FYI, if you don't like homosexual marriage, then do the logical thing and just don't have one. It's quite simple.
How sad that sgrimsley has to focus on perceived negative aspects of society instead of being thankful for the good. It's a sad state of privilege when having shelter, food, access to education and medical care (even if the US system seems so unfair to the poor) and the freedom to worship without fear of persecution is cause for a person to want to get "out of this place". She has no idea what a fucked up nation looks like.
"Homosexual marriage, premarital sex, telling others it's ok to believe in other gods... NO! It's wrong."
All this happened because we did not follow Allah's sharia. It will keep happening until we follow Allah's sharia. Unless a nation follows the commands of the One True Religion, it has no way to behave morally.
How can I, a European, know more about the country sgrimsley lives in than she does?
"I can't wait for Revelations to take place, so the Lord can take us home, and out of this place."
And she'll never find out just how wrong she is.
"I think that separation of church and state is the problem."
Well then, you must not be very good at thinking.
"This is a sick sick world,"
In some respects that is true, but there are many beautiful parts of the world, too.
"and to condone the removal of Christ from the same doctrine that was created in His name, "one nation under God" seems horrid to me."
None of the founding documents of this country were "created in His name." Stop lying. The phrase "under God" was added to the pledge in the McCarthy-fueled, anti-communist frenzy of the 1950s. Do some research, shithead.
"If we, as Christ's obedient children stuck with Him instead of allowing sin and degradation of Christ to run rampit, perhaps we wouldn't be in the situation we are in today."
"Rampit?" Get thee to a dictionary.
"We" are not "Christ's obedient children." You may fancy yourself as such, but I certainly do not.
"Homosexual marriage, premarital sex, telling others it's ok to believe in other gods... NO! It's wrong."
You're right! Telling other's it's OK to believe in ANY gods is wrong.
"I can't wait for Revelations to take place, so the Lord can take us home, and out of this place."
You haven't even read your Bible, have you? What you mean is that you can't wait to go to heaven with a few Xian friends, and have most of the world's population tormented and then sent to eternal torment in hell. Many Xians call this by the non-biblical name of "the rapture."
The name of the biblical book in which this scenario is laid out is "Revelation," not "Revelations."
No, that would be your Bill of Rights in general that's "the problem". Have you ever noticed how reluctant they are to attack the constitution even though it's used so much against them? Even without seperation, you're screwed. But admitting that would mean being honest with yourselves and not having this peice of paper you don't even believe in to hold over everyone.
"I can't wait for Revelations to take place, so the Lord can take us home, and out of this place."
Niether could the author, John, who clearly beleived (becasue Jesus told him so) it would come in his life time.
"I can't wait for Revelations to take place"
Aaaaaargh. This must be the most annoying thing a fundie can ever say.
They insist on controlling the world, starting wars and generally making life miserable for people, and then claim they don't even want to be here.
Some of us do want to be here.
Those who really believe the rapture is coming shouldn't have as much say in the running of the world as those of us who believe we're here until the end.
We're gonna have to live with their mess after they've gone up to heaven to play with their skygod.
"one nation under God" seems horrid to me.
Trim the context, and this actually seems sane. Trouble is that he's saying that removing the phrase seems horrid.
I think it was in Austin Cline's About.com-Atheism where I read a few days ago about a poll whereby 50 or so % of Americans believe the raptural feces will hit the fan within 50 years with the accompanying philosophy of to hell with the world. Level the forests, suck up the last of the fossil fuels and convert them into hydrogen sulphide, bugger Kyoto, etc., etc., ad nauseum. Despite my paraphrasing, this is a serious problem with a time limit. And I can see no workable solution to overcome the generational indoctrination and ignorance. Where's a benificent, dictatorial God when you need one? As my 14 year old son used to say.."This sucks, big time."
How ignorant. You do realize the two fallacies of the statement do you not? One, the country was not created under gods name, its was created under religous freedom. Also, the pledge wasnt written as the country was created, nor was the line 'Under god' added until later. Stupid person, think before you make words.
Would it be such a bad thing to take away church's tax-exempt status? We could balance the budget with that kind of revenue, and fix many of the problems in the country with that kind of cash. And it might keep church leaders humble, instead of rich assholes.
I think the best thing we can do in this country is to stop catering to the religious right, and treat them like anyone else.
Church and state should never be mingled, look at what happened in the past when we tried that, the Spanish Inquisition is one. (thangs that make you think)
You know back in the time the Church wasn't seperated from the state, back in merry ol' England it was PROTESTANTS like you that were burned at the stake for heresy. What makes you think that the protestants will come out on top this time around? After all Christianity is on a decline in the U.S. Of A. Who isn't to say that the MUSLIMS will combine with the government?
And it's called rampant. Not rampit.
Tripoli owns you, dude. That 'one nation under God' bull is a modern thing. If someone chooses to worship God, that's fine...but we're not a theocracy. The US was not founded on Christianity. Get a history book to read and then place it on the shelf beside your bible.
I, for one, hope the rapture happens so pinheaded pricks like this can shut their fuckin yappers finally! god speed, jack ass.
...religion is a figment of the mind, not reality. *beeeep beeep*1,2,3... sgrimsley, are you there?*beep beeeppp* johnson, we seem to have lost his mind!!!*beeeeeep*
I went to the tedious trouble of checking sgrimsley's bio, and, amongst the usual Christobabble, she states that she is a High School Teacher -- Unemployed.
Which demonstrates one of two facts about the American Education system.
Either it is very good at detecting the lunatic component in its midst and deposits that element on the rubbish heap,or it hands out Teaching Diplomas to any dumb semi-literate fuckwit who happens to be passing.
As regards the inimitable sgrimley's desire to depart from this mortal coil post haste,I suggest she appeal to the Great Gods of Smith and Wesson to help her on her way.
Yours in Whatever,
Nemo
"under God" was added during the '50s when Nationalistic and Fundamentalist forces began to mix. Then came the Reagan "Revolution" and people like you.
I don't want my religion forced on you, so don't force mine on yours, kthnxbye.
"I can't wait for Revelations to take place, so the Lord can take us home, and out of this place."
Me too...a world without Fundy Christians. Now that would be heaven on Earth.
