I should point out that I make no claim that Thomas Paine wasn't a deist.
The Age of Reason in general, writers such as Voltaire and Rousseau was the beginning of the current dark ages

Current dark ages as opposed to the dark ages with the low life expectancy, stiffled scientific growth and the rule of dogma and ignorance. If you think that was bad think about all those people reaching 80, sanitation, clean water, computers and an abundance of food. Damn all those quality of life improving technologies.
It is interesting how fundamentalists look at the beginning of the Age of Reason and subsequent Scientific Revolution as the beginning of the Dark Age. I seem to recall that the Dark Age preceded both. BTW, Montalban, if you do not like the results of reason and science then why don't you turn off your computer, give away all of the things that reason and science have provided you with and go live in a mud and thatch hut?
P.S. Julian, what is the Cleopatra Award?
It's like the dark ages of technology. Any rational person can see that it was really, really, awesome, except the fundies, who think it's a dark age because they aren't in charge.
go live in a mud and thatch hut?
Actually, building a hut requires reason too. He can't do anything but wander around eating small animals.
Hey buddy, if you desire a more 'enlightened' society, I am quite sure Sudan or Liberia is up your alley. Oh, thanks for reminding me. Two new authors for my reading list.
Dark Age?!? What is this, Opposite Day? Dude, it was called the Enlight enment for a reason! The only reason YOU are blind in darkness is because of how tightly you are determined to keep your eyes shut.
If this guy attempts, for an encore, to prove that black is white, he'll have no one to blame but himself if he gets killed on the next zebra crossing.

"I should point out that I make no claim that Thomas Paine wasn't a deist."
OK. I make no claim that the earth is flat. So what?
"The Age of Reason in general, writers such as Voltaire and Rousseau was the beginning of the current dark ages"
Not actually a sentence, but I think I get the idea. First, that wasn't the beginning of "the current dark ages," that was the beginning of the enlightenment. Second, there were other people of other views writing at that time. If you don't like how things turned out, why not blame "the current dark ages" on the inept writings of theologians of that era?
If only we could send you back to the ACTUAL dark ages, Montalban, you would learn an important lesson, and we would be much amused.
<<<The Age of Reason in general, writers such as Voltaire and Rousseau was the beginning of the current dark ages...>>>
...says the person using the technology provided by the age of reason.
I want to build a simulation medieval manor, so I can send him and a bunch of other fundies to live as dark ages serfs. I get dibs on Lord! Of course, even making him a knight would get the point through him pretty fast.
