Plants are Free Energy Machines
Photosynthesis doesn't explain how plants can transform Energy into Matter. Studies on plants have demonstrated that the total biomas mass of plants exceeds the amount of water and nutrients put into them. For example, 50 lbs of water plus 50 lbs of nutrients should equal 100 lbs for a plant's biomas, but its biomas, dried and weighted, is 150 lbs. Where does the extra 50 lbs come from? It comes from the energy in space. Space is alive with energy, even in so called vacuums. Plants are free energy machines, transforming energy from space into matter, E=mc^2. How does evolution explain this?

Translation: I read something that sounded cool on a website somewhere, I don't understand it, I don't even remember it properly, but if I use words like 'biomas' (sic) it'll sound all sciency like.
.... just lost for words, here.
I'd like to see that plant, too. Were you smoking it, by any chance?
E=mc^2
His plant is 150 lbs. I have no idea how much 1 lbs is in real weight units so I'm going to take 1.5 kg.
E=1.5*299,792,458^2
Just think of the energy if you completely converted the plant into energy.
I assume that you weigh at least 60 kilograms, that means that you are able to produce at least 4 times as much energy.
Let's fuel the world with fundies.
"For example, 50 lbs of water plus 50 lbs of nutrients should equal 100 lbs for a plant's biomas, but its biomas, dried and weighted, is 150 lbs. Where does the extra 50 lbs come from? "
Probably the same place your bogus information came from.
No no no see plants produce hella energy when given a small amount of electricity. since the principle of photovoltism indicates that light carries electricities, the plants are getting all kinds of electricyt just by sitting out in the sun all day long so they can produce lots of energy and thats how mankind got to that planet in Trigun so that bears out Imaginosiseseseses theory because it was in a science fiction show and every1 noes that science ficshun is based on SCIENCE! right?
As an aside, I have heard on the radio a song in which some man bellows "SCIENCE!!" at certain times. I think it's from the 80s, but the only thing I can remember from it is the guy shouting "SCIENCE!!" in a dramatic voice.
Does anyone know the song I'm talking about? Thanks!

The extra "matter" doesn't come from energy. It comes from matter, including gasses.
What does any of this have to do with evolution?
yep - everyone covered it nicely - the key part in the net equation from photosynthesis has
Water and CO2 in, sugar and O2 out.
That's why burning wood (and coal) is a bitch, apart from particle emissions it releases CO2 back into the air as it burns.
if all of the stupidity and hatred in fundies could be converted to energy, and they all released it at once, the ice caps would disappear in a pyroclastic cloud that would incompass the earth many times over.
Uh, plants rely on nitrogen-fixing bacteria in the soil and themselves fix carbon dioxide.
Ah, but I forget myself. Air is weightless, of course!

I think he's under the impression that the extra mass comes from solar energy. Apparently he's never actually worked out the E=mc^2 formula. c^2 = 90,000,000,000,000,000 meters^2/second^2, so the amount of energy needed to create even tiny amounts of mass is astronomical: to create a single pound of matter would require the equivalent of over 300 million gallons of gasoline! The sun converts about 2 billion pounds of matter a second into energy (a trivial amount compared to the size of the sun) but, thank God, only a tiny fraction of that energy reaches the earth - otherwise, we'd be vaporized!
Chan, System of a Down released a song a while back called Science, where the word "science" is shouted a few times, might be what you're thinking of.
The increase in mass of plants beyond the net amount of water retained (absorbed minus emitted) and nutrients absorbed from the soil comes from carbon dioxide fixation. It is hard to believe, but easily measured, that plants add mass from the air, even when carbon dioxide content is a mere 400 parts per million. Here is how it can be proven. Place your plants in an air-tight greenhouse and pump air through the greenhouse slowly. Measure the carbon dioxide concentration of the incoming versus outgoing air. Multiply this difference in concentrations by the volume of air pumped though. And, voila, you will discover that the plant's increase in mass is due to absorption and conversion of carbon dioxide. Burn the plant, and you will discover that the weight of carbon dioxide produced by combustion of the plant exactly equals the weight of carbon dioxide absorbed during the growth phase of the experiment.

Guess what, it didn't work when they tried this stunt with human growth years (by discounting food intake or suggesting more came out then in) ago so here's bullshit 2.0.
So, what Christian college did you break these plants down in to get these numbers again? Remember, you've gotta count the ice in your fruit freezies.
"50 lbs of water plus 50 lbs of nutrients should equal 100 lbs for a plant's biomas, but its biomas, dried and weighted, is 150 lbs"
These plants were grown in vacuum?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
