I don’t know that I believe that.
I DO Know that the entire concept makes absolutely no sense at all and no argument for it helps.

As far as I know, I am apart from all cults.
I’m atheist, so I am apart from al religions, mainstream or niche.

But, hey. Hell. It’s not a punishment. Punishments are all over civilization. They’re a counter to certain behaviors in the hopes that the punished individual, or witnesses to the punishment, won’t repeat those behaviors in the future.
People in Hell never leave Hell. They don’t get a chance to show they’ve learned their lesson. They never get a chance to misbehave in that manner. And they never can repent. If i die an atheist, the instant i perceive God, I won’t be an atheist. That’s a sin I’ll never commit again. But it’ll be too late, i’ll be in Hell for all of eternity.
Also, none of the atheists on Earth will actually see my torture. It won’t be apparent, so it’s useless as a deterrent. The only people who believe it already believe in God and Hell and all that, so they don’t NEED an example of my punishment in Hell.
So. Hell is not punishment.
It’s just revenge. And it’s outrageously injust revenge. There’s only a finite amount of sin i could commit in my finite life on Earth. Even if I broke one of the 613 commandments every twelve hours, there’s an upper limit. And i will receive infinite torture. Same as the guy next to me who only committed 400 sins. OR the little girl that told her Mommy to buzz off one time.
Just unending suffering. For almost no reason at all. God can’t benefit from it, he’s already omnipotent, right? What’ll he do get MORE insufferable because of my screams?
He knows why i made the choices I did, and at what point i became doomed to Hell, and did nothing but watch. But he gets nothing out of it. I don’t bleed or burn for his glory.
The only one getting anything out of it are the Christain sadists who LOVE the idea of sitting on a cloud,looking down on Hell, and seeing all the pain and suffering of everyone that disagreed with them on Earth.
Imagine. AN eternity enjoying the suffering of others but calling yourself Christain….
