"Democracy is a Satanic ideology used to make men hate authority that is above themselves."

Semiomniscient? Yeah. You know everything about nothing.
If anything, Democracy lets people choose which authority they want to hate, because people will often hate ANY authority above themselves. I'd hate a democratic authority far less than a monarchy or totalitarian fascist state, simply because I get to choose WHICH asshole gets to rule over me.
So go to a country with a dictatorship. Don't let the door hit ya where the Good Lord split ya ...
None of the democracies are likely to change because some lunatic fringe minority wants a dictator who runs the country according to THEIR rules. In fact, most of us will lay down our lives to stop that.
Besides, people who prefer democracy don't "hate authority that is above themselves" - they just want a say in the choosing of that authority.
Professor M, I get the same impression.
Also the understanding that JC didn't want followers, but helpers.
Actually, all of you Iran-invokers, don't forget, Iran is actually semi-democratic. Better you should pick Saudi Arabia, or maybe North Korea (where the theocracy actually has a real, live "god" who wears lifts and spends his days watching Western porno movies...).
Democracy and satanism are not as related as you'd like to believe.
Authority that is above me? Of course I don't like someone telling me what to do. That's called freedom and some people like it. But if you're happy being a sheep, no one is stopping you.
Iran- bizarrly, has an elected president and parliment. They're more like a SERIOUS 50's America, than a real theocracy, sometimes. Tehn sometimes, they're just assholes. I don't know, Iran's just wierd.

@Lt Fred.
Yes, their President is elected. But their Supreme Guardian Council, comprised entirely of Imams and Islamic scholars, vets the candidates beforehand. A candidate can only stand for President if he passes the Council's scrutiny (ie. conforms to their view of Islam). If the choice of candidates is restricted by religious interference (because a candidate must be sufficiently religious to stand) then by definition they are a theocracy.
And anyway, there aren't really any other theocracies left, so to call it the 'most vicious theorcracy on earth' isn't exactly on overstatement.
But yeah, Iran is a bit weird :P
1) Learn the definitions of the words "Democracy," "Satanic," and "ideology."
2) Study the history of the world's theocracies & dictators. See how awful they were (though perhaps not to twisted fundies), and how they ultimately failed.
3) If you still hate the idea of democracy, move to a country whose government shares your ideas. I hear Cuba is nice this time of year.
Well, I never said Iran was *nice*. But if the theocrats went away, they'd already have most of a system in place. Saudi Arabia, being an absolute monarchy, doesn't have that, not even a sham version to look good for the outsiders like the Soviets did.
I don;t get people who say things like this about democracy. You would actually prefer to live in a totalitarian state with no rights or freedoms...the same rights and freedoms that allow you to say shit like that on the internet?
Alos, what he says makes no sense - because in democracy we still have authority over us, albeit one we choose.
@NonProphet
And #2 is where it all falls down in their eyes. If it was a non-Christian theocracy, it failed because it wasn't Christian. If it WAS Christian, it failed because it wasn't TRUE Christianity. Moving Goalposts and a No True Scotsman all in one.
Athority is important in society. We need some control to maintain the system and uphold laws. Democracy can be described (better than other forms of goverment) as the least oppresive. Fundies want Christian totaliarty, History has shown these to be the worst, most oppressive and counter-productive of regimes.

:: laughs hysterically ::
No, democracy is the means by which governments keep people like yourselves from taking over and oppressing or killing everyone who isn't identical to yourself.
Haha! I'm surprised this quote made it anywhere. If I'd bothered I would have expounded my problems with theocracy (which would HAVE to be run by an actual deity), anarchy (which just doesn't work), dictatorship (where a capable despot rules by a sword because of his own phallic insecurities), a monarchy (where neglect often occurs because of the fulfillment of phallic insecurities), etc. etc. No government is perfect--each has its own evils. Individualism and the exalting of self is democracies. (I will even admit that it is a lesser universal evil than other oppressive options.)
The same could be applied to all dictators. So, let´s choose our form of government with the garanty that, we may go to hell, but at least we will fix here on earth.
@Professor M, Puck:
Really? As more or less a mutualist myself (free market anti capitalism etc), I would say Jesus is closer to the typical anarchist communist than to a mutualist. He sends to disapprove of self-interest entirely, whereas mutualists want to rid self-interested enterprises of usury as much as possible without abolishing them, which is a pipedream (if a nice one).
@semiomniscient: Yes, if only you'd bothered to explain further. I'm sure your belief that democracy is a Satanic conspiracy is made much less ludicrous by your opinions of other political systems (which I might point out are naive at best and childishly idiotic at worst).
Confused?
