Nice! I always wondered how he did that. Kinda takes away the miraculous part, though, doesn't it? And are we to assume the fishermen were ice fishing, then?
So when a scientist acknowledges the existance of the bible, as in, "The christian bible is a collection of fairy tales," that counts as 'proof' of some sort? I don't get it.
Do you know what Science means?. Man, they try to explain how the world works. The key is that, whether they discredit the Bible or not, it´s not their business.
Science has so far proved that a bat isn't a bird, that the world is round, that the moon isn't a source of light, that Creationism is a pot of bullshit, that the earth goes around the sun etc. etc. So, it's proven quite a few things in the Bible wrong.
Well science is in alot of ways proving the bible correct
I'm sure there are at leas ta few people trying to use "real" science to proof the bible correct. The only downside for you is that they horribly failed so far.
and other science is TRYING to disprove the bible.
True, there are people actively trying to diproof the bible, and when I hear about their successes you know that I was correct in thinking the bible is just another book.
And the rest of the scientists are just doing some random research into the field of their interest and sometimes that proofs the bible wrong. Just live with it.
I read about that paper proposing that a freak cold snap would have made it possible for there to be ice on the water that could have supported a man, enabling Jesus to "walk on the water."
Of course, if that were the case, then the ice on the water would have been the miracle, not the fact that Jesus was walking on it -- because if that was how he was doing it, ANYONE could have walked on it. It also didn't make sense that he could get all the way out to a ship before the ice would have thinned out too much for him to continue on it without falling in.
Generally, the naturalistic apologetics explanations for some of the weirdness in the Bible just don't quite add up; even if the science nominally supports it (and this usually takes pretty great leaps of faith as well!), the logic of the situation doesn't.
That said, of course, the poster is an idiot for his viewpoint that science is invariably wrong where it conflicts with the Bible. The "science is stupid" crack alone is sufficient to have him banished to Fundieland.

The Bible is a morality play. Events happen for narrative reasons rather than scientific ones. Bits like "I saw men like trees, walking", which resonate surprisingly well with modern discoveries, are interesting to look at, but it's the laws of narrative rather than physics that shape the story.
Trying to validate or invalidate the Bible with science is like trying to validate or invalidate opera - there's absolutely no way you could sing a ten-minute aria with a sucking chest wound, but that doesn't stop the actors from doing it anyway.

I'm reminded of an old joke my mother told me when I was a kid:
A group of Catholic priests and a group of Protestant pastors had gotten into an argument over which group had the deepest faith, so they decided to settle it with a walking on water contest in/on the nearby lake. The first Catholic goes, and oh miracle, he walks on water! The second Catholic goes, and he manages it too, and so forth until all the Catholics have succeeded.
You can imagine the state of mind of the Protestants by that point... Now the first pastor goes, and he promptly drowns. Same thing with the second, the third, etc.
Then there is only one pastor left, and when he's about to go one of the priests whisper to another "do we tell him were the posts are?"
"Well science is in alot of ways proving the bible correct...and other science is TRYING to disprove the bible... ha ha disprove... like... it was cold back then is Jesus walked REALLY on ICE... HA... Science is stupid..."
If one is going to make an argument either for or against something, it really helps if:
a) said person knows what the fuck he or she is talking about, and...
b) is able to coherently construct a readable sentence with at least some small measure of proper grammar, spelling and punctuation (the serious overuse of ellipses excluded, of course).
Go back to elementary school for a little while and see if you can't make up for some of that inept homeschooling you've received.
I agree with you. The thought of Jesus walking on ice in the Middle East is absurd. A far more rational assertion is that the story of Jesus walking on water was stolen from the myth of Dionysius, which is considerably older than the gospels.
No need to thank me for helping you out WWJD. Its all in the cause of furthering human knowledge.
This is a scientific argument, as in: How do you walk on water?, has to be a miracle!
Could be ice, could be shallow water, could be bullshit, could certainly be bullshit.
"science is in alot of ways proving the bible correct"
You people really gotta start giving REAL examples of this.
Confused?
