> This is because atheists have this collective aura of bitterness and negativity.
*Blind idealists* have the aura of bitterness and negativity. People who see only the ideas and not people behind the ideas are prone to idiocy, whether they're fundies or atheists.
And mind you, I see a lot of fundies who are blind idealists. Heck, that's part of the definition.
> You can't just demand courtesy and respect from other people if you treat them like garbage. This is the Golden Rule.
The Golden Rule says "do what you want others to do to you". Note the complete absence of the expression "if the others do...". Note the fact that it tells YOU to unconditionally do good things. Note the absence of categories of people.
In other words: Always stay nice, no matter what.
If other people consistently show that they don't appreciate your help, fine, go ahead and give up. Just remember that you've demonstrated that this philosophy doesn't work in all cases, and it is YOU who failed to stay nice no matter what.
And the moment you start *pre-emptively* denying help to people "because they wouldn't appreciate it anyway", you've divided people into those who deserve niceness and those who don't. More so if you apply broad, likely inaccurate categorisations, like here. If you keep spreading the news, like here, well, you're just getting worse and worse upholding the original spirit of the rule. You know, *people who spread ill will like this aren't very good poster boys for spreading universal love, now are they?*
