The atheist will say the world is screwed up because of religion but judging by his actions and those of others is it screwed up because there is not enough?

The atheist will say
We are not "the atheist". We are individuals with our own thoughts and agendas.
judging by his actions and those of others
My actions? You don't know me. Oh, wait, I'm eating pork and drinking beer. That must be it.
Personally I think it's screwed up because of humans, but that's people for you. Why did your god create them, again?
(Actually, serious question; why would a perfect god bother with all this shit in the first place?)
We atheists do not have centuries-old vendettas to fulfill.
It's like "Live and let live," dontcha know?
[And Iraq is the perfect example of that!]
Because Iraq is TOATALLY a secular country, amirite? *rolls eyes*
Hmm... I think the Iraq comment may be editorial, for our point and against his, rather than an example given by O.
I don't suppose O knows that there are a lot of religious atheists in the world (those who practice religions that don't have gods).
What actions? I got up, went to work, and now I'm home watching TV. Yeah, I'm really screwing up the world by not standing on street corner holding up a giant disgusting photo of an aborted fetus.

I've asked believers the same thing. They've had either no answer or desperate, loopy answers.
No, the world isn't screwed up because of religion or the lack thereof, but because human beings are (in the words of my history teacher) essentially terminally stupid. Religion is just one of the many effects of that basic fact. That's why it's important that we educate ourselves and others.
"The atheist will say the world is screwed up because of religion"
Well not necessarily because of religion.
Here's my official statement on what's screwed up the world:
1. Stupidity in general
2. Taking religion too seriously
3. Sports
4. Democracy [IAmNotMakingThisUp]
5. Generally, human fallibility and selfishness
And the way you say "the atheist" is very demeaning. It's like "the Jew" or "the heretic". Like there's one of us and we all believe exactly the same thing? Bullshit.
When everyone was religious (ie- the Dark Ages), things were a lot more violent than they are now.
Coincidentally, perhaps (or, then again, perhaps not), we're also far less religious now.
The atheist will say the world is screwed up because of religion but judging by his actions and those of others is it screwed up because there is not enough?
No I don't think that the world is screwed up because of religion, but religion doesn't help a society either, it divides it, it make people in religion A think that they are inherently superior to the people in religion B and vice versa.
And Iraq is the perfect example of that!
So when you say religion, what you really mean is your religion, not religion in general. There is not shortage of religion in Iraq, and that proves my point even more, all religion is divisive
Erm, Iraq was technically (though not so much in reality) a secularized country. Iran's a much better example of a country screwed up by theocracy.
But no, the world isn't "screwed up because of religion", it's screwed up because too many people are incompetent and/or greedy - whether in religion, politics, or anything else.
Yeah, what with those damned, liberal, atheistic, Islamic hardliners and all.
How in the hell is Iraq an example of that?
Iraq is one fundamental creationist religious group blasting another fundamental creationist religious group. Oh, and just for good measure, George Bush Jr, a third fundamental creationist religious group jumped in. You know, instead of hunting down the FOURTH fundamental creationist religious group that flew a plane into us to get their 72 virgins.
Man, those 73 male suicide bombers are going to be pissed when they wake up in the same pit of Hell together.
Confused?
