BeWhoYouAre:
You can learn the golden rule growing up without any connection whatsoever to God or religion. It's simple enough in how it is taught - treat others the way you want to be treated. It works perfectly well, it's sound moral teaching, and doesn't require a God, so why keep trying to weld God to it? And you call ME hilarious?

Master Samwise:
"You can learn the golden rule growing up without any connection whatsoever to God or religion." Specifically the formulation from Judeo-Christian sources? Because no you can't.
In this entire discussion, I have not actually brought up God. In fact, in my first post, I SPECIFICALLY said that we could set God out on this one. Then I showed how pagan philosophers argued for an objective morality without the invocation of God. In this entire discussion, you seem to be trying to dishonestly move the conversation towards one where you can bash on God while I merely point out how you completely misunderstand or ignore your opponent's position. In fact, your posts are immensely helpful in proving that case. Prediction: you will latch onto the golden rule bit and ignore everything else I said.

BeWhoYouAre:
You're the one being dishonest. I've had this discussion numerous times with people who seem to want to make the claim that you can't have morality without some kind of supernatural compass. It's nonsense. If you grew up without religion, you learn your morality from your parents, and it's good and decent morality because that's what your parents want you to learn.
You've said yourself above that you can't learn the golden rule without the formulation from Judeo-Christian sources. That's precisely the accusation that I've made, so HELLO, MR. STRAWMAN? Where are you? I've been pretty hilarious to you with my pathetic lack of understanding, apparently, why don't you tell me what I'm missing here?

Master Samwise:
"I've had this discussion numerous times with people who seem to want to make the claim that you can't have morality without some kind of supernatural compass." You are all over the map here buddy.
As you can plainly see, I set the God question aside WAAAAY earlier and focused on an objective moral order proved through reason. For the love of all that is good, do you see NOW?
"You've said yourself above that you can't learn the golden rule without the formulation from Judeo-Christian sources." Prediction confirmed.
