The Olympians were predominantly Christian and conservative, and it is difficult to identify any liberal counterexamples of any significance.

Just went back to the original page. The context of the quote was saying that every one of the 2012 Olympic athletes around the world were religious and conservative to boot. Even if we just stick to the American delegation, Gaby Douglas recited the pledge of allegiance at the Democratic convention and Michael Phelps once said, and I quote, "I guess I was made this way for some reason, and I’ve been able to find the talent I have, and I’ve been able to use it, so I’m grateful for that. I believe in God; I’m not saying I’m highly religious. I used to always go to church on holidays, but I don’t go much any more."

Not exactly a ringing endorsement for Andy's position.

Andy, Andy, Andy, Andy. Will you PLEASE go get professional help? If you don't want to do it for yourself, do it for your family.

It seems like Andy thinks that anyone he likes is a fine, conservative Christian, and anyone he dislikes is an evil liberal atheist. While it must be nice to live your life in an entirely black-or-white world, those of us in reality understand shades of gray.

It's like Andy is living in a Jack Chick alternate universe, where anyone who is good and heroic is a conservative Christian, and all the evil, vile, hateful people are evil liberals who are intent on destroying American society. It's like some bizarre Twilight Zone episode, except that Andy is perfectly fine living in such a universe and doesn't want to escape it.

Fair enough, but I bet he's the exception, compared with the rest of the Liberal Democrat party in Japan. And I wonder how he can reconcile his Christian beliefs with the Shinto beliefs of the rest of his members; especially when it comes to the veneration of the Emperor...?

Also how they were re-elected, out of pure political-fiscal expediency, after the failure of the previous administration. And then when the Liberal Democrat administration were voted out of power previously. The Japanese electorate are a very politically fickle people.

Note Schlafly's typical tactic of appending weasel words, in this case 'of any significance'. He doesn't mean statistical significance. He uses words like that to dismiss any and all counter evidence.

For example:

Gabby Douglas, gold medal gymnast. Douglas did a few appearances campaigning for Obama's re-election.

Francena McCorory, gold medal in 400 m run. She did the same thing.

These two women would both be dismissed by Schlafly as insignificant, and he would do the same to everyone else at the Olympics who doesn't fit his definition of conservative. Now, it happens that athletic skill is not and should not be a guide to political opinions. But that does not redeem Schlafly's choosing to deny all of reality.
