Lesseee... God killed 42 kids, at once, by bear, wasn't it? In addition, we have two cities sans a family deemed 'good enough,' and.. well.. the ENTIRE FREAKING WORLD, same pattern.

Sorry, a murderer cannot defend himself by pointing out that somebody else has killed more people. Murder is murder, it makes no sense to compare numbers. Imagine a terrorist who shoots 10 people and then tries to defend himself that Anders Breivik has killed 80 persons. He would stay as guilty as before.
Btw, @Apatheist: "Mao never claimed to love those people he killed." Unfortunately, this is not true. Especially communist dictators try to defend their actions that they are forced to do so for the greater good of all. This schizophrenic behaviour bears much resemblance of the biblical god, who is also described as "a father who punishes his children because he loves them"
Mao killed more than 42 children, as did Dubya, Washington and pretty much any leader who has ever started a war or led a revolution. They'll all have excuses for it, some of which history may even accept.
How many firstborn did God kill in Egypt? How many children did he kill in the flood? How does that make him better than Mao? What is God's excuse, and how well does that hold up even to human morality?
When it comes to killing kids, your God can't be beat.

What you're forgetting is that god murdered these 42 kids (while listening to their tortured screams of pain) for making fun of an old man.

Oh, yeah, and don't forget this "loving and merciful" omnipotent and omnibenevolent god killed EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING ON EARTH except for one special family and a few animals in addition to all the other atrocities documented in the old testament.
