It's like when those wasps inject larvae into a living caterpillar. Sure, the caterpillar dies a horrible, horrible death being eaten alive from the inside, but hey, at least the baby wasps get a chance at life!
Actually, for most mammals (Monotremes excluded) and some ovoviviparous reptliles and fish, I tend to agree with the last part of the comment, but for different reasons (natural selection of this type of reproduction can reduce the total number of offspring the mother must produce to ensure the survival of the species).
So a tiny little embryo is a human life, but the adult woman carrying the embryo can be regarded merely as food for the baby? Well, I guess this kind of thinking answers the question of why some people are against abortion. It's easy to ignore human rights once you have relegated the human in question to the position of nothing more than a baby's food supply.
First, this is the first one I've heard that speaks the true point of view on abortion that most Pro-Lifers seem to hold. The mother is useless and redundant for anything above the purpose of a vessel. Second, there's still a large grace period there, as a baby doesn't develop anything resembling a heart until, what, second trimester?

Fetus w/ a beating heart = precious, must be preserved at all costs.
Mom w/ a beating heart and sentience, awareness, and a connection to this world and the people in it = Meh. Since the baby will die if she does, we might as well keep her around.
