Man.. those Mexican drug cartels would tear an Islamic extremist apart. They have extremely different goals and if it's the wrong gang involved, they'd kill them for not being Catholic.

Drugs and terrorism are sadly closer linked then you might think. There have been some unverified reports of terrorists trying to get in touch with the cartels, after all, the cartels know how to smuggle lots of stuff across the border. We also know that one of Al-Qaeda's main sources of funding is the poppy trade. And it isn't just AQ. FARC in Colombia is a narco-terrorist group. After all, what is better than drugs for raising a lot money really quickly? That said, almost all border security experts agree that the cartels don't want armed reaper drones showing up over their skies and tend to avoid terrorists. Likewise, I think the people of Juarez would probably see the cartels as terror groups.

Surely a mexican drug cartel would not knowlingly harbor AQ people. That seems bad for business to me. They have problems enough fighting off each other and the occasional army group.
