Ah yes! there is nothing more harmless than the summer solstice. Nothing nicer like worshipping the sun for those young hippies. After all sun worship has been used by so many notables as Hitler, babyloninans and egyptians, knights templar, illuminati, I could go on and on!
The power of the sun has been understood by those with occult knowledge throughout the ages. Sun worship is everywhere in the occult. The nazi swastika itself is the symbol of the sun (taken from asian traditions, original symbol of the sun).

It sheds warmth and light. It is an enormous source of energy. It has no "supernatural" powers, though.
Papabear: It is built with bits and pieces of many different ancient religions. A lot of the Jesus myth was borrowed from Mythraism, based on Mythras (the Son of God) who supposedly lived some 800 years prior to Jesus. There are many similarities between Mythras and Jesus. It is considered no small coincidence that the apostle Paul's home town was the center for one of Mythraism's largest sects.
Star Cluster -- Yeah, I know that, but I had in mind a similar pattern between Jesus and more ancient, actual Sun gods; Ra, perhaps, and the like.

I've begun worshipping the sun for a number of reasons. First of all, unlike some other gods I could mention, I can see the sun. It's there for me every day. And the things it brings me are quite apparent all the time: heat, light, food, a lovely day. There's no mystery, no one asks for money, I don't have to dress up, and there's no boring pageantry. And interestingly enough, I have found that the prayers I offer to the sun and the prayers I formerly offered to "God" are all answered at about the same 50-percent rate. Brain Droppings
Irene - Connections between Hebraic and Egyptian mythologies aren't the only ones that you find in Judaism and Christianity (though Horus/Osiris/Isis is highly significant as you point out).

Unfortionately many people trace to the sun worshipers what they should trace to Jewish sources. Samson means to shine like the sun "Shimshon" and Delilah has in it the word night "Laylah". Within the story of Samson is a cosmilogical theme of Light and Darkness already in the 13th Century B.C.E. Also the Samson story has him coming from Timnah while a Messianic figure coming from Timan has bright beams of light comming out of his hands, their is the hidding of his power. Literally the text says, he has Karan coming out of his hands or that he haas horns of power in his hands or at his sides. Remember that Samson burned his hands pulling fire brands out of the burning house of His wife killed in a battle following the wedding feast and with tears running down his face he SAVES SOME STICKS OF LIGHT OUT OF THE HOUSE. The house is ment to be a picture of the world. The WIFE is ment to be a picture of the Church. Notice that the wife is a Philistine wife why? because God loves not just the called out of Israel but the whole world.
