Jesus is not a Jew. Jesus was Jewish.

This one made me smile.
To the racist fundie, "Jew" is a race, and "Jewish" is a religon. Racist fundies like to deny that Jesus was a "Jew," claiming instead that he was a Semmite. Ignoring, of course, the fact that Semmites are Jews. What's unusual about this is that this racist fundie is claiming that Jesus was "Jewish." Usually they deny this as well and claim that Jesus was, in fact, Christian. Why Jesus would worship himself is a bit of a mystery.
Nicole, that T-shirt is something we like to call "satire". It a form of the long lost art of "comedy". This guy is just a moron because he is serious.
Sandman: "Semmites are Jews" isn't completely true. Jews are Semites is, but other ethnic groups are semites to.
@Wikipedia
The concept of a "Semitic" peoples is derived from Biblical accounts of the origins of the cultures known to the ancient Hebrews. Those closest to them in culture and language were generally deemed to be descended from their forefather Shem. Enemies were often said to be descendants of his cursed brother Ham. In Genesis 10:21-31 Shem is described as the father of Aram, Asshur, and others: the Biblical ancestors of the Aramaeans, Assyrians, Babylonians, Chaldeans, Sabaeans, and Hebrews, etc.,
If one believes that Jesus was God, how could Jesus be considered authentically anything BUT God? I suppose he could LOOK like a Jew, but would he really BE a Jew? And, why would Jesus/God be any particular religion? The trinity mixes things up considereably. Jesus/God is his own son and worships himself.
To deny that Jesus was a Jew is to contradict the Babble. Old Testament "prophecy" called for Jesus to be born a Jew and to be rejected by his own people. The Jesus tale was written to make it look like the prophesies had been fulfilled. There are numerous times in the Gospels, especially in Matthew, where the writer tells of something happening in Jesus' life and then adding words to the effect of, "so that prophecy might be fulfilled."
So if Jesus wasn't a Jew, awesomelegend, then he isn't your Messiah and/or Savior.
"Roses are red, violets are blue-ish, if it wasn't for Jesus you'd all be Jewish."
You sure about that? Keep in mind that the Jews keep to themselves. I think that if Christianity never spread, the western world would most likely either be Norse Pagan, Greco-Roman Pagan or Muslim, depending on who won what wars.
"Jesus is not a Jew. Jesus was Jewish."
Okay, maybe he means Jesus was Jewish at some point but is no longer (note that the two sentences differ in tense). Perhaps after his death he converted to Buddhism or some other religion once he realized the whole "sacrifice myself to appease myself" idea just...didn't really make sense.
Boy, you guys don't leave much for the latecomers to shred... I can't think of anything to add that hasn't been said, except that David's idea for a new award is excellent, and I don't think we'd have a problem finding a contender every month.
I think what the person is saying is that he was Jewish, being born into the family, and then created a new religion of which he was part of. But, it seems to me, he was simply preaching the word of the God of the Jews and NOT founding a new religion. Merely changing the current one.
Robert Burns is not a Scot. Robert Burns was Scottish. That doesn't make sense either, does it, awesome?
PS See John 4:
7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)
9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew , askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
From Late Night with Conan O'Brien :
Richard Belzer: Ask me if I'm a jew. Go on, ask me!
Conan: Okay, uh... Richard! Richard Belzer! Are you a jew?
Richard: (waggles hand) Jew-ish...
I loved that bit, and now I love it more when Christ appears on Late Night!
Sandman, I'd like to make a correction. The Babylonians were also Semites, as are, technically, the Arabs.
But Jesus was a Jew, no matter how you slice it.
This guy, is, without a doubt, the most brilliant idiot I've ever seen. Cudos to him for making us all hope that Darwinism works.
I...
You just...
...what?
you cant actually be serious. this has to be a joke. i have a down syndrome cousin laughing at you right now. i hope the worst for your children and their children and so on. you deserve every disease in the book, and every person that comes into contact with you should have the right to punch you in the mouth just to show you that god cant save you when you say something as dumb as you just said.
Maybe this was written by Cartman of South Park?
'Kyle, I'm sorry for all those times I called you a dirty stinking lazy Jew.'
"Oh, Thanks."
'I was wrong, you're not a Jew.'
(Instead of Kyle, read Jesus)
I think all of you are missing the point, and I'm going to guess the context of the comment as well.
"Jesus is not a Jew. Jesus WAS Jewish."
Was. In much the same way that some people were Christian, and became atheists, or the other way around. Assumedly this was in reference to Jesus being born a Jew, but starting the Christian faith, and hence being the first Christian.
Come on people. Insulting their intelligence, and then missing the obvious point yourselves?
Jesus was a Jew, and set out to ratify the way the Jewish religion was at the time, not create a new religion, he wanted it to go back to the way "God" intended.
At the time of Jesus, there were hundreds of other people trying to be a "Messiah" and "Prophet" and do the same thing, theres historical evidence and cultural evidence for this.
Having talked to a Jewish community, I'm quite sure what is meant seems to openly suggest that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was either not a Jew... or she was an unorthodox... or maybe just accepted into a family of Jews... or Jesus only became Jewish FROM STUDYING that religion, Which I'm quite sure that most of you don't even know enough about Judaism to make such a retort, even though the word "Jewish" ALSO refers to those who are fully Jew. As the poems goes, the violets might have many of different shade of colors, but in general, they appear to have more of a "bluish" tone to them.
.....Uh.
Ok. Speaking as someone who happens to be Jewish herself, I will just say this: Jesus was a Jew. Which means that he was Jewish. The Last Supper was a passover sedar.
You are lacking in brain cells.
Cartman: Kyle, all those times I called you a stupid Jew, I didn't mean it. You're not a Jew.
Kyle: Yes I am, Cartman! I *am* a Jew!
Cartman: No, no, don't be so hard on yourself.
That was the VERY first thing that popped in my head!
Radical Nazi propaganda turned Jewish people into a "race." Originally, being a Jew and being Jewish meant the same thing. The reason this changed was because of "Social Darwinists" who believed that each race and/or nation existed due to NATURAL SELECTION, and therefore there MUST be a superior race. Because of several wars and the apparent "tightness" of the Jews, people scapegoated them by saying they are "less evolved" than non-Jews, and thus MUST be a race.
Way to contradict everything you stand for, AwesomeHitler.
I thought I had seen plenty of stupid fundies on this site, but you, sir, have to be one of the stupidest.
HIS NAME WAS YESHUAH (or something like that, but it definitely wasn't jesus) IF YOU CAN"T GET THAT RIGHT, THEN STFU! and if no one could get that right, why trust the KJB? what else have they lied about?
Well... to be fair, what I THINK he meant was; 'Jesus was an ethnic Jew but did not belong to the Jewish FAITH' As in being Jewish, but not being an adherent to Judaism.
So poor phrasing, but not really a stupid or racist quote per se. I mean, you can be Jewish, as in being a member of the Jewish people, without being Jewish in the religious sense. And if anyone qualifies for that it'd be people who found their own religions.
Let's dissect the sentences.
"Jesus is not a Jew. Jesus was Jewish."
Notice that two verb tenses are used, past and present. Jesus is not a Jew = Jesus is not Jewish. Jesus was Jewish = At one point, Jesus was a Jew. Therefore, awesomelegend is saying that Jesus was a Jew, but is not any more. I agree.
"Jesus is not Christian. Jesus was a Messianic Jew"?
"Jesus was born and raised in a Jewish family, but converted to Christianity"?
"Sorry, but His name was Jesus Christ, not Jesus Christowitz"?
"Jesus may not have been totally Jewish, but He did a better job at being the King of the Jews than that Herod-poser"?
Gah, too many possible jokes.
Oh yes Oh yes.. I get where he is coming from.. it's a Revolutionary thought. You know like.. Man is not "Alive" .. we're just "Living" .. you know?? (Man is not Human, Humanity is Man)
"WoW" - P.S. I did not check the box
That's not really that bad compared to most of the stuff on here, you can see what he means. I think he meant Jewish as a race, and a Jew in religious terms. It might seem stupid but it's just misworded.
I can actually understand where the author is coming from in this quote. The word Jew is generally a neutral word. It can be either positive or negative depending on the context. If I say I'm a Jew (which I am), then the context clearly isn't negative. However, in another context the word is used as an insult. Many Jews don't like being called Jews as the proper adjective would be either Judaic or Jewish.
ARRGHhh
The stupid!
It burns!
Well technically, it's true.
Jesus is dead, so he was Jewish (past tense).
This christian is just exact about their grammar.
Also, did he he still consider himself Jewish by the time he had died?
wow, how did you ever figure that out genius. your so smart i just feel so, so... subhuman in your majestic presence.
BEING A JEW AND BEING JEWISH IS THE EXACT SAME THING, FUCKTARD!!!!
This..
Thi.. Um..
Just...
No...
And the difference would be......?
Unless the key is in the use of the past tense, conceding that the dude is dead and not resurrected?
Confused?
