I can't believe the people who continually profess a superior logic can't grasp things a 6th grade student can.
No God changing the law is not a contradiction. That should be the only thing that matters if you were really interested in contradictions. But seeing as you are just harping on God supposedly being flawed I have established that there is actually a logical reason for doing so. Just as Jesus denounced polygamy because of the corruption of the world. Just imagine how diseases like AIDS would spread with people having a 1000 wives. Now you are saying you know more than God because He should have said "no you can't marry your sister because hundreds of years from now genetics will cause birth defects." That's just insane especially at a time when incest was needed for humans to breed and practically everyone was a relative.
The real issue is that you have already decided the bible is rubbish and therefor it doesn't make sense. But you know if it's true it actually does make sense so your logic is a fallacy. You can dismiss this as "the usual" but if there's a flaw in your logic I will point it out. Wear the damn shoe. As usual I don't expect you to reply with a reasonable retort because you have none and will just waive it off again.

" Just as Jesus denounced polygamy"
Did he? I don't recall that I do recall there being quite a bit of polygymy throughout the Bible
And it is rubbish and contradicts itself. You'd know this if you read the damn thing
> But you know if it's true it actually does make sense
Then since it doesn't make sense, therefore it is not true. Glad to hear you admit it.
"No God changing the law is not a contradiction."
- Swa
"For I am the Lord, I change not;..."
- From Malachi 3:6, (KJV)
So, either the bible is wrong on this matter or you are Swa. Which is it?
Somehow I expect that your answer will begin with the phrase "You stupid liberals...!"
First he says...
"The real issue is that you have already decided the bible is rubbish and therefor it doesn't make sense. But you know if it's true it actually does make sense so your logic is a fallacy."
Then he says...
"You can dismiss this as "the usual" but if there's a flaw in your logic I will point it out."
Repeated violent facepalming ensues...
If the bible were true, there'd be no need to use logic - not that any of it's laws could possibly apply. In any world in which magic exists - may that be Lord of the Rings or a universe in which the bible represents actual history - all laws of nature and logic can be safely dismissed since they can be broken at all times. Therefor there are no constant laws that apply, which is the definition of both laws and nature and logic.
In any world in which neither laws of nature nor laws of logic exist, man could only dig a hole and pray that nothing bad hits him. To put it simply, if there was magic, civilization could not exist.*
*We of course still see Fantasy literature and the entire genre portray this very differently, which is because of a safety mechanism in the genre: the limiting of magic to an elite.

Not to forget that fantasy authors like to give their own kind of magic its own set of rules and laws that are usually portrayed (almost*) as immutable as physical laws in the real world. But that’s no different than SF authors inventing new physical laws to limit what their unobtainium or phlebotinum is capable of.[/OT]

Commas are your friend.
That said, the OP seems to be regurgitating the usual crap.
'Now you are saying you know more than God because He should have said "no you can't marry your sister because hundreds of years from now genetics will cause birth defects." That's just insane especially at a time when incest was needed for humans to breed and practically everyone was a relative.'
For a moment there I thought they were implying that only now that we know about genetics are they capable of being a factor in birth defects.
Not that what they're really saying is much better, but I guess this could have been worse.
Christ denounces polygamy supposedly when he forbids divorce. He states that a man who divorces his wife and marries another one commits adultery, because the divorce isn't valid. This would not be a problem if men were allowed multiple wives. However, from my brief research, in Jewish law a man may only take another wife if his first wife agrees to it. If that is the case, the man in this example may be committing adultery because the wife he divorced is hardly likely to agree to his taking a second wife, and he is hardly likely to ask her permission (since he no longer considers her his wife). By the time of Christ, polygamy was legal in Palestine, but practiced only rarely and generally by the aristocracy.
Thou art a most pompous and self-important bag of winds, sir.
I'd recommend you do some research and post some proof for those assertions of yours, but I wouldn't want to cause you a hangnail or fracture your pomposity.
God, changing his law, is not a contradiction. It is a far more serious thing. It is an admission that God got it wrong. Therefore, that being the case, he cannot be either omniscient or omnipotent.
As to the Bible, it is full of internal contradictions. And before you jump to contradict me, take the trouble to read it with intelligence and discernment - and fairly. If you do this, you will perceive that the God of the Old Testament is a homicidal maniac. His treatment of Job, for example, is cruelty raised to a sublime level. Asking Abraham to commit human sacrifice, and saving Isaac at the last moment, is a very sick joke. Demanding that Jephtha sacrifice his daughter is not the act of a loving creator. It is another demand for human sacrifice - this time it was carried out. He claims he is a jealous God. Jealousy, I was taught, is sinful. It also contravenes the Commandments: Thou shalt not covet! There is a lot more like this in the Bible. Read it! If you can do so on a level above your brainwashing, you cannot, in all justice say that the God presented there is a just, fair and lovable God. He is one who demands that his followers live in mortal terror.
Oh, no, I get it alright. What I don't get is how one minute you guys are claiming something (Divorce, the bulk of Levitican law, whatever hypocritical thing you decide is okay when YOU need it) is okay because God has forgiven it, and changed his mind on it, however, other things (gay marriage being a big one here) being immutably, irrevokably wrong, because God hates it and wil always hate it, no matter how the social atmosphere has changed because God is immutable, unchanging and unswerving in his laws.
Funny how it works.
As usual I don't expect you to reply with a reasonable retort because you have none and will just waive it off again.
"Don't bother replying, I can't hear you over the sound of 'LA, LA, LA' with my fingers in my ears."
@markb
While what you say is true for those days, in Jewish law it has been forbidden to marry more than one wife for about a thousand years, especially where the law of the land forbids it which is pretty much everywhere Jews live. There is the case of yibum (levirate marriage), but in such cases a man, if he is Orthodox, is expected, almost to the point of compulsion, to go through chalitzah, i.e. formally renouncing his rights to the marriage. If he isn't Orthodox, it doesn't matter because yibum doesn't apply.
"I can't believe the people who continually profess a superior logic can't grasp things a 6th grade student can."
And I can't believe an adult could mistake the kind of stupid conclusions that a 6th grader could be made to reach through verbal legerdemain, with what a 6th grader can actually grasp .
Doesn't your book also say, "When I was I child, I thought as a child, blah-blah-blah, etc.?" ... and you're holding up a 6th grader as an example?
I think the Bible is an antique attempt at creating an exploited yet subservient hierarchy. It's rubbish because it doesn't make sense. Drawing conclusions, then looking for supporting evidence is what religious people do.
I can't believe the people who continually profess a superior logic can't grasp things a 6th grade student can.
Exactly. Just because Gerar was found to be a real town doesn't mean that Sarah bore a child there when she was 90, and just because a real person named Jesus may have actually been crucified by the Romans doesn't mean he was the son of God. Just because the Bible condemned incest or murder or stealing doesn't mean it was right about everything else. Even I can call heads or tails and be right 50% of the time.
LOL right, a being who knows the past present and future changes his mind? what?
christians call god perfect yet he changes his mind?
what's insane is thinking that any of your bullshit is logical outside the confines of the mentally shallow religious idiots who defend crap like this.
no where in the bible is polygamy denounced, the only time jesus even talks about marriage is in reference to adultery.
what you end up doing is not defending the bible, but proving the bible is not the product of a god.
Of course there is a logical reason for harping on God supposedly being flawed. The God of the Bible IS flawed.
What do you mean; "that's not what I mean"? You said it, why are you saying things you don't mean?
Reading the Bible makes it fairly obvious that it is more or less rubbish. If you want to keep people from noticing the rubbish, keep people illiterate. Which is exactly what the rulers did during the early Medieval period. Some people seem to be stuck there still...
If you don't want to be waived off, stop spouting easily waived-off drivel.
Oh, I see your problem here.
You think a God wrote those books! Now take all you apologetics and apply them to books written, rewritten and edited by many different men and interpreted by many more.
See there's your logic train derailed beyond repair.
Confused?
