Sarah "Bible Spice" Palin is the most dangerously stupid candidate to ever run as the nominee of a major U.S. party. She's also a bald-faced liar, a questionable parent, mean, vindictive, incurious and partisan to an extreme. I don't believe in God but I thank fate every day that she won't see the inside of the halls of power for, at least, four years. And I will take every peaceful measure within my limited means to ensure that she NEVER influences the U.S. federal government. Failing that, I will leave this country if she actually manages to ride the votes of ignorant shit-kickers to the White House.

My list looks a little bit different. Top 5 best developments concerning family in the last years:

1) The Netherlands manages to keep teenage pregnancy rates and abortion rates at lowest number in the world, the result of sane sex education and widespread availability of contraceptives. Similiar developments in other european countries.

2) Barack Obama (in a stable marriage of equal partners, never divorced) wins the presidency, over McCain who was divorced twice, left his first wife under questionable circumstances, and is now married to a woman 18 years younger than him.

3) Population growth of the world slowing much faster than predicted. Main factor for this development: Female education in third-world countries. There is now hope humanity might never reach the mark of 10 billion people.

4) Age group 18-29 is the group with highest numbers of people leaving religion, especially fundamental evangelicism. Religious denominations especially in Europe are on the brink of dying out due to immense aging of its members without being able to attract new young members.

5) Widespread normalization and acceptance of homosexual relationships in the western countries.
