The veracity of evolution is in no way, shape, or form dependent on how comfortable you are with it. The argument that evolution must be false because it describes behavior you don't like is neither compelling nor intelligent.

I do recall reading somewhere that altruism is a survival trait in many species. Especially in herd animals, one will often sacrifice itself to slow down the predators, ensuring the escape of the rest.
As usual, the tired old "evolution makes mass-murdering sociopaths" argument fails because survival of the fittest society trumps that of the fittest individual, and a fit society does not tolerate such people.

Why do these people assume Survival of the Fittest means Might makes Right? Survival of the fittest means the best at surviving it's environment. With nothing around a creature for food, it will die, so a certain degree of co-existence is required here too, bub. And finally EVOLUTION IS NOT A CODE OF ETHICS! That's Social Darwinism, not evolution. Evolution is just a way to describe what we see is happening, not a set of rules to follow.
