Witches in Africa are no joke: they aren't like the benign picture of the western Witch. They are violently superstitious, and nothing is beyond their capabilities.

I keep hearing about all the wonderful powers witches have, where do I sign up?
All I'd have to deal with fighting me are Christians, but that wouldn't be very different from now.
"They are violently superstitious, and nothing is beyond their capabilities."
Ironic, since creationist fundamentalists are also apparently able to sway crowds with lies, not to mention advocate killing gays, etc.
And before someone tries to say this isn't fundie, it's a comment on an article on the freak 'witchhunter' who prayed for Sarah Palin and brought a witchhunt again a woman who his batshit mind thought was 'causing car accidents through demonic spells.'
Stupid people who can convince large crowds to be equally stupid are what's dangerous.
"they aren't like the benign picture of the western Witch."
What the hell are you talking about? For centuries the western world has portrayed witches as malevolent old hags.
"They are violently superstitious"
Like the fundies who fear them?
"are violently superstitious, and nothing is beyond their capabilities. "
Judging by Palins pastor, the same can be said about christians.
Fundies in the U.S. are no joke. They aren't like the benign picture of the European Christian. They are violently superstitious and nothing is beyond their capabilities.
In the U.S., Fundies are a serious problem.
If they're so powerful, how come they're all in mud-hut African villages? They can control natural forces and other humans, but can't conjure up a New York penthouse?
Both you and they are living in a fantasy world. Neither of you has any woo-woo power, from Satan or Jebus.

No, in Africa, belief in nonexistent witchcraft is a serious problem.

This statement made me laugh out loud. Well-done, fruitcake!
No, in Africa witch HUNTS are a serious problem. Most of the accused witches are young girls or old women who don't have family to protect them. When something bad happens, superstituous, poorly educated villagers, often starved and prodded into a frenzy by maniacs, drag these poor women out of their homes and kill them. Sounds kinda like Salem to me.

No, nowadays I think people have a much more benign picture of witches. He propably means tv-shows, Harry Potter etc.
As someone who actually lives in Africa.
I would like to state that witch doctors which is probably what this person is referring to are a serious problem. They have been known to kill people/pets/wildlife just for unavailable organs for their rituals. They also frequently scam the ignorant and superstitious people out of a lot of money.
"Muti Killings" are depressingly common just because of old African superstitions.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
