The American Civil Liberties Union is threatening an Alabama school district over prohibiting a lesbian from taking her girlfriend to the prom.
Tharptown High School near Russellville told Cynthia Stewart she could not attend the prom in March with her girlfriend in tow. On behalf of the 17-year-old junior and her guardian, the ACLU is now demanding that school officials reverse their decision.
According to Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel, the case is typical of the ACLU in that "anything that is anti-moral, anti-religious liberty, and anti-freedom, you can always find them on the other side."

Public schools cannot be based on religious morality, her freedom would be curtailed more than yours, you do not have the freedom to take away others' freedoms, etc. It's all been said already. Why don't you people get it? And good for the ACLU. They're almost always on the right side of things.
Dear Mr. Staver:
Fuck off. I read the rest of your quotes in your article. Where the hell did you pull abortion from? Did anyone discuss abortion at the prom? Are you worried that the lesbians are going to perform abortions at the prom? Seriously.
The school should not be allowed to discriminate against a girl for her sexual orientation. You, as a lawyer, should know this. It's the law.
'According to Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel, the case is typical of the ACLU in that "anything that is anti-moral, anti-religious liberty, and anti-freedom, you can always find them on the other side."'
Anti-freedom more accurately describes the mis-named 'Liberty Counsel', more accurately 'Counsel for Christo-Fascism'. What these shitbags really want is freedom to persecute those who dare to oppose or disagree with them. Fuck off and DIE Mat Staver.
"anything that is anti-moral, anti-religious liberty, and anti-freedom, you can always find them on the other side."
Wait, the ACLU is on the opposite side of anti-moral, anti-religious, and anti-freedom causes? Then they are on the side of moral, religious and freedom causes? Um, I think my language parser broke.

Where's the fundie again?
Oh, right. Too stupid to realize he complimented them.
Thejebusfire: As long as you're dancing like a slut for a guy , I guess there's no problem.
Well, the girl wants to go to prom with her girlfriend (female friend). So what? There probably is more girls in that school than boys, so what's the problem in that? /feigned ignorance
Also, citation needed Mat Staver.
Do I have this wrong? I wish Christian Groups would stop calling themselves America Liberty Patriot Family Morals Coalition. Just call yourselves Unenforceable Meddling and cohere into one sticky mass.
Explain to me how religious liberty and freedom are being violated here for anyone except the girl? Maybe lesbians are sacred in her religion, jerk.
And freedom? "Hey, sorry, 17-year-old-girl. I know high school's hard enough, especially for a homosexual these days, but why don't you stay home and not attend this party with your friends. Maybe then you'll think twice about being gay. Unless of course you'd like attend by yourself and be singled out as different for having affection for another human being."
Man groups like these have forever made me suspicious of the following words in political/lobby groups names:
- Christian
- Family
- Morals
- Values
- Liberty
- Catholic
- (any religious denomination really)
- Virtue
That's the point of the ACLU: to stand against "anything that is anti-moral, anti-religious liberty, and anti-freedom." Thanks for recognizing that--oh wait, that's not what you meant at all. You're a moron.
And while I don't hate my state of birth, I now have one less reason to be proud of it. Way to go, Alabama! Yep, you're sure showing everyone how totally sophisticated and advanced and non-Deliverance we are now!
The L, look at it this way: Kansas is still mocked over the one board of education decision to teach Creationism in schools. With luck, the ACLU will win for the poor girl, she'll go to her prom with her girlfriend, be happy, and have good memories after the fundies were told to sit down and shut up.

This is happening at my (public Alabama) school too. Along with school prayers, not being able to wear non-christian religious symbols, and getting berated for being a "god-hating" person, as they put it.
"According to Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel, the case is typical of the ACLU in that "anything that is anti-moral, anti-religious liberty, and anti-freedom, you can always find them on the other side."
Yeah, it's so anti-freedom fighting for the right of that girl to take the person she wants to the prom.
Damn you, ACLJEW!
"anything that is anti-moral, anti-religious liberty, and anti-freedom, you can always find them on the other side." - Tell me Mat, does your foot hurt?
The American Civil Liberties Union is threatening an Alabama school district over prohibiting a white girl from taking her black boyfriend to the prom.
Tharptown High School near Russellville told Cynthia Stewart she could not attend the prom in March with her tar baby boyfriend in tow. On behalf of the 17-year-old junior and her guardian, the ACLU is now demanding that school officials reverse their decision.

Same shit, different decade.
So, as the ACLU has defended christians in the past, are you admitting to being anti-moral, anti-religious liberty, and anti-freedom?
So? Just because you and most of Alabama don't like teh gheys, that should not exclude gays and lesbians from being able to excercise their civil rights.
Being from a southern state (Texas) I can understand why the rest of the country hates us. It's people like these who make the rest of us who ARE human beings look bad.
Yes, the Christian Fascists are on the anti-moral, anti-religious liberty, and anti-freedom side. And the ACLU are on the other side. Although, I'm sure that's not what Mr. Mat Staver meant to say.
Love it that these guys make the ACLU out to be "anti-Christian" when they have a record of protecting all people's religious freedoms, including *gasp* the Christians.
Fundie Dictionary
"anti-freedom": trying to take away someone's "freedom" to take away someone else's freedom.
"anti religious liberty": taking away the "right" of Christian fundies to force their religious beliefs on others.

Hahaha, this is too good. This idiot was too stupid to realize he just basically called the ACLU pro-moral, pro-religious liberty, and pro-freedom. It's true, though.
Of course the ACLU is on the opposite side from anti-moral, anti-religious liberty, and anti-freedom. That's kinda what they do, silly.
No-one has the "freedom" to refuse other people their human rights, asshole!
The ACLU isn't "threatening" the school district. It's the school district that is infringing on (or "threatening") a student's civil rights.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
