The bible is the most explicitly detailed book of historical events in existence. It lists genealogies farther back than most people even know their own roots! It lists kings, kingdoms, wars, events, motives, fulfilled prophecies, none of which are contradicted by outside sources.

Aside from the parts that ARE contradicted by outside sources (age of the earth, the flood story, etc.), some of it isn't even *internally* consistent, much less consistent with outside sources.
well, I don't see anything wrong with this post. I mean... if you're using the bible as the only reliable document ever written and the only reference tool available, it stands to reason that it can't be contradicted.
Oh... hang on....
Well, if you're able to find a scientific source, or common sense for that matter, indicating that people can live more than 200 years, then we'll disscus.

I can trace my family back to before William the Conquerer, wiht sources. Can the Bible give sources?
john begat tommy and frederick and frederik begat sammy and linda the large breasted. then there was more begating until the world was truly begated.
the bible genalogy coulda been banged of one afternoon on a whim
The ghostwriters and editorial committees of the bible deliberately used those internal inconsistencies to keep the peasants confused. Bear in mind, the people back then were not expected to have direct access to it, being illiterate and all that, so the priests were trained to use its inconsistencies to stymie any legitimate question.
Well, if you like your historical events being unverified pieces of hear-say and other kinds of factoids pulled from the ass, hell, why not?
Meanwhile, here on planet Earth...
As only the ones who have done research in the matter know more than about seven generations back, that's not really that impressive.
If my memory serves me right, two historical events are mentioned in the Bible, in connection with the birth of Jesus. One that happened a few years before 1 A.D., one that happened a few years after that year. So, Heidi, which is it?
kinda makes sense from a fundie viewpoint. If you have never looked for or even seen an outside source, the that of course means the bible has never been disputed by said source because you have never seen it,and thus its never been disputed, because you have never seen an outside source that refutes the bible.damn, thinking like fundie actually hurts!!its true!

Fixed
> The bible is the most explicitly detailed book of historical events in existence.
AHAHAHAHA
We have 3,000-year-old Chinese records that are far more detailed and reliable than the Bible.
> It lists genealogies farther back than most people even know their own roots!
Some of those genealogies contradict each other. Also, the Bible says to avoid pointless genealogies.
> It lists kings, kingdoms, wars, events, motives, fulfilled prophecies, none of which are contradicted by outside sources.
> events
Like how the sun "stood still", even people on the other side of the world should have noticed that the night was really long?
> fulfilled prophecies
Like how Tyre doesn't exist anymore? Or Egypt? And the Nile dried up? And Israel lives in peace with its neighbours? And there is still a king on the throne of Israel?

The Bible - via Ezekiel - claims that the city of Tyre was completely erased from the map.
What was that about outside sources...?
It's still there.
Show me on any map - historical (but still geographically/cartograpically correct today ) or modern - where there was another city in the Middle East named Tyre.
...oh, and as for 'explicitly detailed', prophetically , when you can show me in the Bible what the next format that'll replace Blu-Ray will be, let us know. But I won't be holding my breath.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
