[In response to a lesbian being elected mayor of Houston]
I live 20 miles south of Houston...I didn’t even know a homosexual was running in the race.
Ya just never know anymore...many suprises...next term a felon murderer may be elected there....unbelievable.
Will she have a parade with all her friends on main street?

I live about 20 miles south of Houston to. You didn't know a lesbian was running because no one gives a shit.
5 bucks says the freepers and other bigots will try to claim this woman kept her sexuality secret or her opponents didnt bring it up or any number of excuses that save them from admitting a lesbian was more popular than the straight candidates. They have no problem rewriting history, just ask all those people claiming that mainstream Christianity NEVER opposed interracial marriage and the Bible has NEVER been used to justify racism with the exact same strategies used against gays.
"Will she have a parade with all her friends on main street?"
Yes, and at the end, there will be a feast featuring roasted Billy-Bob and barbequed Bubba.
At the top of the thread:
I can hardly wait for the first openly adulterous mayor of a big city.
You mean like Rudy Guliani? He's cheated on at least one of his wives.
You have already had a murderer for a president. During his governor-ship George Walker Bush signed 152 death sentences (according to Wikipedia Sweden).
Murders and lesbianism are not the same thing. You need to research more thorough before you let your mouth (or rather fingers) run away.

This despite it being in every newspaper for hundreds of miles, and babbled about on every major TV channel for weeks on end. Thanks for reaffirming that conservatards never come within visual range of any source of actual information.

This genuinely surprises me. The local fundie media should have been foaming at the mouth predicting hurricanes earthquakes and plagues. OR since this is Texas, maybe they would predict a drought from god as punishment.
You.
Are.
An.
Idiot.
That is all.

Her opponents did exactly as you predicted. Which is why I think this guys just pretending him and the other bigots were unaware of this so they can act like the only reason she won is that no one knows she's a lesbian.
Its like the birthers, they cant admit most people just think they're fucking retards so they act like the only reason nobody agrees with them is that that the evidence is being kept secret.
Yes, and it'll be fabulous. I wouldn't go myself because it'll just be too gay.
And,,,apparently if you're gay you gotta be part of a big group now. I'm so glad I'm straight, it's easier, the Rights got gays doing so much shit now they won't have time for sex
What with the gay manifesto and gay agenda and unessesarilly flamboyant parades
So...until you knew she was a lesbian, you thought nothing amiss about her.
I repeat, until her sexuality came into play, you thought she was just another person.
Think about this a moment.

==== Hey, bobaloobob, what has sexuality got to do with being good at a job? Apart from the fact that gobshites like you make it more difficult for other...

We had Hurricane Ike last year. We had to do something to balance it with. So we elected a lesbian.
Ironic, isn't it, that comments like this are in a publication called "FREE REPUBLIC" - when their readership demonstrates that they desire ZERO freedom (for anybody but their own club) and they haven't got the faintest clue what makes a republic work (They seem to think that if "Republican" is from the same root word as "Republic" then Republicans are the only ones who can (or should) be free....)
I have to say, I'm surprised that Houston of all places is the first to do this. Although...didn't San Francisco elect a gay mayor back in the 70's, who ended up getting shot or something?
At any rate, why should she go around advertising that she's gay if it's not important to her campaign? She probably didn't mention it simply because it didn't pertain to anything she planned to do. And is it really that big a deal if it doesn't affect her ability to do her job? Really, now.
@Katie5000 You're thinking of Harvey Milk. He was on the board of supervisors. Mayor Moscone was murdered along with him, but he was heterosexual.
Also, "felon murderer"? I figured that given Texas' record with capitol punishment that they'd be pretty cool with someone murdering felons.
As a Texan, I figured a big 'thank you and fuck you' was in order, directed at those both in that thread and this one for perpetuating or accepting the dumb texan stereotype.
Honestly, you'd think a bunch of heathens like us would know better.
Well, I live 1224 miles north of Houston, and I knew about the lesbian candidate months before the election. If bobaloobob is too ignorant and lazy to keep up with his local news, he has no one to blame but himself.

I have never left the state of Texas in my life, I can assure you it is not a stereotype. Just ask the head of our board of education who thinks the Earth is 6000 years old.

And the fact that this douche has been voted out of his headship isn't proof that the majority disagree with that sort of asshattery?
Don't let a vocal minority shape our oppinion of the majority.
Confused?
