"Charles Darwin was a ... um ... scientist who started a controversy that was resolved in the Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925."
But it was a pyrrhic victory though. Via worldwide press coverage, John Scopes was seen as the underdog battling against the status quo, the rigid, unbending paradigm of the time. It was he who, through his efforts to present a different viewpoint, helped to change the world. Certainly with the 1960 Stanley Kramer film adaptation "Inherit the Wind", popularising his cause further.
Times have changed though. Education has become refined and advanced. Archaeological and genetic research has delivered new evidence to change the old way of thinking. And evidence brings forth something that represents a paradigm shift; indeed, can completely destroy 'belief': Facts.
As used so destructively in 2005: Kitzmiller vs. Dover. As a result, the teaching of 'Intelligent Design' (and therefore Creationism) in all accredited educational establishments in the US is illegal and unconstitutional.
See it as righteous vengeance for The State of Tennessee vs. John Thomas Scopes in 1925. More so, when you consider this:
Kitzmiller vs. Dover was decided & found for the plaintiffs by Judge John E. Jones III. A Conservative Christian. Who personally appointed him to the Federal bench? President George W. Bush. A Conservative Christian. Who voted for Dumbya? Right-wing Fundamentalist Christians like you, AV1611VET, and your ilk.
So the educational agenda of the Religious Right was ultimately destroyed - by the Religious Right itself. Ah, the irony is exquisitely sweet, is it not? Certainly makes me revel in my Left-wing Atheist superiority. PROTIP: 'Hubris'. Learn that word, fundies. It could save your life.
