I have a question for you guys: Do you consider Catholics to be Christian?
I know a lot of you said "yes," but actually, you're wrong. Catholics aren't Christian. They claim to be, but they worship the virgin Mary, and not Jesus or God. Also, they dance pagan dances around that huge hat the pope has, when the Bible says that nobody should keep idols.
If you have any more questions, please direct them to me and I will be happy to direct you to the way of reason and light. True Christianity comes from your heart and Jesus, not Pope mobiles and bread cookies.
Please save your souls before it's too late.

No, they definitely worship God and Jesus, just Mary is another addition. Lots of protestants worship the Trinity... doesn't seem that different to me.
And no, there are no pagan dances around the hat.
Catholics don't worship Mary. She's not part of the Trinity. They merely venerate her.
And, Catholics do not dance around the Pope's hat, fucktard.
As for "bread cookies," I'm assuming you mean the Host, which is meant to represent Christ's body...
And why I am defending Catholicism? It annoys me that fundies are so retarted they force me to defend the faith I left to become an atheist.
Like an idiot I clicked the link to see where this argument went, resulting in me losing a few brain cells. Anyway, it appears that SurfKitty69 pretty much pulled out as soon as someone countered her argument.
1st, Catholics don't WORSHIP Mary, merely revere her.
As for the rest of this post, has this guy ever actually met or spoken to a Catholic? it would appear not.
I grew up Catholic. I'll admit, Catholic mass is really garish and overblown, but I never recall dancing around a pope hat. And besides, I think a sombrero would serve that purpose better.
Proudly ingesting the death cookie (as Jack Chick so eloquently puts it).
Another historical revisionist. One, you all are SPIN OFFS of Catholicism, sooooo........second, the key qestion. Also, we don´t worship the virgin Mary, we just consider her a type of special mediator, that´s all. In a very similar way you consider Pastors to be, only that much higher. And I don´t know what you have against dancing. I nominate this idiot, best informed critique of another religion.
YOu people are so fucking ridiculous, honest to CHRIST, you are.

I hear you, SaneChick. I've been a lapsed Catholic for mahy years, but it gets my back up when I see retarded statements like this. I mean 'bread coolies', fer fuck's sake! Undoubtedly this idiot has been into the Jack Chick tracts!
We never got to dance around the Pope's hat. NO FAIR!
Troll or Poe, though unfortunately, without that bit about dancing around the Pope's silly hat, no one would ever be able to tell...
I have never in my life seen a Catholic dance around the Pope's hat, so I assume this amusing little poster is being metaphorical and referring to how the Catholic faith requires that its adherents submit to the authority of the Pontiff. And as for "worshiping" the Virgin Mary, no Catholic has ever used the word "worship" in that fashion. The word they use is "venerate," which in this context means "to respect, pay honor to, value." They do pray to the Virgin Mary in the belief that Mary will then intercede on their behalf with God, since the Bible states that Mary was favorable in God's sight. Many Protestant sects take the position that prayer in and of itself is a direct act of whorship, and therefore Catholics worship Mary, but no traditional Catholic would hold to that view. (Although it is true that the Marian sect of Catholocism elevates "veneration" to near obsessive and fanatical levels about Mary...)
As a former Catholic, I have to say these criticisms of the religion were always puzzling, but now that I'm a more rational person it's obvious and quite funny.Catholicism is the favorite conspiracy theory target for the fundies, it seems.
Catholic churches and people are as un-fundie as you'll find (with the exception of Anglicans perhaps), most accept evolution and most priests (the non sex-deviant ones) actually live what they preach (you won't see any padres with expensive cars or designer clothing, like is the norm for the more affluent pastors).
Catholicism has the most "solemn" type stuff, like staying quiet and kneeling in medieval-like rituals (and makes you want to be a mile away from the whole thing), but your prancing around getting the "Spirit" and talking in gibberish and calling it "tongues" sounds preety Pagan, don't you think?
Everyone pretty much nailed it. SurfKitty69 sounds like the kind of retard that believes the earliest Christian church was the Southern Baptist Church and Catholicism was a tool of Satan.
Pretty ineffective tool at that. I recall numerous Sundays when I was a kid getting dragged to church and staring at a huge cross with Jesus on it, while the priest read from the Gospels!
Fun times, like spending the hour after communion scraping Jesus off the roof of my mouth.
<< but your prancing around getting the "Spirit" and talking in gibberish and calling it "tongues" sounds preety Pagan, don't you think? >>
ArieseNow: I never made that connection before, but I think you are absolutely right! Heck, it compares quite favorably with certain rituals of the earlier American Indians and even some of today's African tribes and other cultures following ancient tribal spiritual traditions.

No, no Surf Kitty 69, you got the question wrong. What I told you to ask people is, "Do you consider Christians human?" Sheesh. Pay attention.
Heh, Catholics are never Christians to fundies until they want to pull up figures showing how many Christians exist in the world. Then Catholics, Jews, and everyone else under the blanket of Judao-Christianity sure as hell DO count as Christians :P
Fucking hypocrites.
Catholics and mainstream Protestants accept the Nicene Creed, which begins "We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God ...". So they are unquestionably Christians, unless Surf Kitty is using her own made-up definition of the word.
Where Catholics disagree with most Protestants is on the intercession of saints. Protestants generally don't accept the concept. Catholics believe saints (including Mary) can be asked to intercede with God, thereby giving prayers additional power. They don't "worship" Mary; they ask for her help in adding her prayers to theirs. This is shown in the line from the "Hail Mary" prayer: "Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners ..."
Also, they dance pagan dances around that huge hat the pope has, when the Bible says that nobody should keep idols.
Oh, why isn't this true? Catholicism would be so much more entertaining this way. (And would there be some rinky-dink organ grinder music leading the dance? I'd like to think so.)

Also reminds me of Vodoun celebrations where the Loas ride (possess) some of the celebrants. But Vodoun is the bastard child of Xianism anyway.
Hmmm. All those years of religion at a Catholic school, and no one told me it was Mary I was supposed to be worshipping. They kept telling me to worship the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.
Still waiting for my chance to dance around the Pope's hat though...
From the moment u were born u have been filled full of sh*t about a fairy story invented 2000 years ago...there is NO PROOF or EVIDENCE that any of it was real! Any one with half a brain and i/2 an ounce of Common Sense can work that out! 'jesus' was born from the VIRGIN mary...but she was a VIRGIN...so she must of had sex, but she couldn't be a virgin...ah but 'god' was the father...but he doesn't exist so how could he be the father...besides there is no father because she was a virgin..which means there was no 'jesus' which means its a Myth that has been conjured up...and over 2000 years the church has attempted to crush the Facts about the earth like Mid Winter and Mid Summer and Herb Lore and movements of the planets and plain bloody common sense...cus those are real and cannot be argued against but how can an organization, like the church, that can only survive through LIES and DECEIT, ever continue when its congregation start thinking for themselves!! god forbid! humans are not catholic or christian they are f***in humans...FULL f***ing stop! Throw away your religious walking sticks and stand on your own two feet...
So that guy on the cross in Catholic churches is what, Mary cross-dressing?
I haven't been Catholic in years and I still feel like I have to defend Catholicism.
Side note: You don't really see many fundie Catholics, do you?
That should be:
"Have you actually spoken with an actual practicing Catholic?
They're not hard to find."
I want my edit button back. T
They claim to be, but they worship the virgin Mary, and not Jesus or God. Also, they dance pagan dances around that huge hat the pope has, when the Bible says that nobody should keep idols.
But... forget it.
We have one prayer to Mary, that's it, just one, in which we ask her for intercession. Apparently you miss pretty much the part of the mass where pray to both Jesus and God? I mean it's what.. the ENTIRE MASS?
Seriously, if you're going to try to tell someone they're wrong, at least learn what it is they do rather than relying on your fundie Fred friends.
"Also, they dance pagan dances around that huge hat the pope has"
WAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHHAHAHHA OH WHAT.
You start with a question and then say "if you have any more questions..."
I didn't have any question to begin with, I know that Catholics are Christians, and that they have been Christians for over a thousand years longer than Protestants have.
They venerate Virgin Mary, but they worship God; In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti.
I'm an agnostic Protestant, and I still defend Catholicism.
I don't think we have that many nutter Protestants over here, we got rid of those a few hundred years ago...
"I have a question for you guys: Do you consider Catholics to be Christian?"
They could say the same about you lot. Protestantism, created by Martin Luther was way after the Roman Catholic Church was formed.
"Catholics aren't Christian. They claim to be, but they worship the virgin Mary, and not Jesus or God"
Mary is a figure of reverence to Catholics, as she was the mother of Jesus. And they worship Jesus as much as you Protestants do. They simply have different (and older) dogma to you & your ilk.
"Also, they dance pagan dances around that huge hat the pope has"
Paganism != Catholicism.
"If you have any more questions, please direct them to me"
I have one: have you ever done RE at school? Certainly not theology at college or university.
Let's judge other Christian sects like we judge everybody else! Listen to what your parents tell you about them and never investigate for yourself and find out they're absolutely wrong!
Not to defend Catholics as better or anything (I prefer the average Catholic to the average fundie nutjob however) but this guy has obviously never set foot in a Catholic church.
See, if we danced around the pope's hat (I'm guessing you mean the gigunda one), that would be AWESOME.
Alas, we're not nearly as cool as that.
"Bread cookies", that's a good one.
So, if Catholics aren't Christian, then who's that dead guy on a cross that they have hanging over the altar in all their churches? You know, the guy who's central to their weekly ceremony of worship?
Aw, come on, what's his name....
EDIT: Man, this thread has me cracking up. XD
(Going back to the church in Worcester I was raised in)
Well, there's the crucifix above the altar, with J.C. Himself, to remind us that He died for our sins. It's a bit of a stretch. Even when I was six, I knew that if I broke a window, it wasn't my sister who'd go to bed without watching TV for a week.
Re: Mary, J.C.'s Mum. Catholics ask her to "pray for us, sinners." Using her to get to her son is not the same as worshiping her. It's a bit of theological legalese, but it's true.
They only invented and spread YOUR religion and created the first several Bibles. Your church or choice of Bible owes them more than you'll ever know, they'd sue you for copyright infringment if they could get the authors to show up.
Your misunderstanding of Catholic Dogma and practices is because of your churchs Dogma and practices. Certainly not from a keen and in-depth understanding of the Bible.
Confused?
