Well, yeah. Gender is psychological and ethnicity is biological?
If gender was biological, like your physical sex, then there wouldn't be a difference between transgender and cisgender.
Chinese? Do you mean 'Chinese national'? Because one can apply for Chinese citizenship. Or 'culturally Chinese'? Because one can assimilate into Chinese civilization. And one can quite easily become 30 years older - by, you know, waiting.
@2107289
Had this been sexes, I might somewhat agree, if you would also point that intersex people exist but we do have 2 "destination" sexes. Now with genders you are full of shit and that`s all to be said in the matter.
It's like he took Cyanide and happiness and took away all the fun. Now I have to read the real thing to cheer myself up.
No one told Ford here that comics are suppose to be short and funny. His comics are books with pictures.
It's cute when they think they've hit upon something.
Race is nothing more than rough generalisation of your recent visible genetic ancestry. Age is a measure of how long you've been alive. Neither are psychological. Race isn't even personal .
@#2107289:
I have no idea what that has to do with anything but thank you, all the same.
Gender is largely about internal psychological factors. Age is, basically, chronological in nature, so can't be altered without a working time machine (and even then, it maybe still can't be altered when you get into the difference between a time traveller's subjective time vs the objective time of a non-time travelling observer). Race is a blend of sociological and biological factors. That being the case, the only thing funny about this comic is how much Adam Ford exposes his ignorance by making it.
You're not Chinese because you are 1. Not a citizen of the PRC or Taiwan. 2. You did not grow up observing Chinese customs or speaking Mandarin or Cantonese (or Manchu or Ughir or Nepalese.) 3. You were not born in China or Taiwan, or were not born to Chinese or Taiwanese citizens abroad. You're welcome to feel Chinese, whatever that means, but if you approach Chinese people and tell theme you're Chinese when you're not, ya know, demonstrably Chinese, you will only look like a lunatic.
Your limited understanding of identity amounts to simply yelling that you're whatever you're using as an example whenever it is convenient and in the dementedly misguided example of claiming you're another race you only underscore this deficit of comprehension as you envision emulating an insulting collection of stereotypes born of ignorance and calling that "race" when the differences you imagine exist between "races" are cultural more than biological. You can absolutely adopt another culture but to make overtures implying citizenship or blood ties are dishonest to say the least and playing out the theme park version is a deliberate insult that simply does not compare. Things attributed to Black culture in America - which I strongly suspect you had in mind - are probably one of the best examples of this. It is deliberately played to extremes and re-invented as mere marketing when it isn't outright slander invented by those who treat African Americans as outsiders in their own country. It is a scattered few people indeed who bear any resemblance to what you might think of as being "Black" in a way you think could be imitated.
Your age is a measurement of time, not an aspect of the self or cognition. It is physical and quantifiable. Appropriate behaviour for your age is extremely subjective however and it's safe to say a not-insignificant number of people definitely don't adhere to a standard on that front.
Confused?
