Because, if I remember fundamental physics correctly, gravity is the weakest of the fundamental forces. The further from the body you move the less influence it has on you, no matter it's mass. Even supermassive black holes only have a limited range of influence.

By the way, Africa has about 900 million or so people and of those nearly 40% are Christian. In fact, Africa makes up around 20% of the total number of Christians on the planet. Face it, your savior is either entirely inept, racist or doesn't exist. I'll let you decide which you'd like to believe.
