Actually, if you put all the Irish in Egypt, wait several thousand years, then come back, you won't be able to tell the difference between the Egyptians and the Irish. (Hell, if you allow the Irish to imtermarry with the Egyptians, it will happen a lot faster than that.) fast. Besides, the whole Irish becoming like Egyptians is an example of species environmental adaptation, not evolution. Irish to Egyptian is not a change from one species to another, unless, of course, you are so racist that you believe one or the other is not actualy "human."
I'm reading a book by Gould which addressed this issue in this guy's first sentence. The problem is that so many people think of evolution as a ladder, with humanity at the inevitable top. That's not the case; humans are just one small branch on the tree of life on Earth, and will not inevitably arise on any other planet with life.
