I would still like to know how "Thou shalt have no other gods before me" becomes "There are no other gods".
The bible even mentions other ones from time to time. Not to mention all the times when "God" is apparently talking to himself and calling himself "we" and "us"
cult:
1. a particular system of religious worship, esp. with reference to its rites and ceremonies.
2. an instance of great veneration of a person, ideal, or thing, esp. as manifested by a body of admirers: the physical fitness cult.
3. the object of such devotion.
4. a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc.
5. Sociology. a group having a sacred ideology and a set of rites centering around their sacred symbols.
6. a religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader.
7. the members of such a religion or sect.
Christianity IS a cult.
Do you have a Jesus fish, Siestathedog?
Do you have any idea why you have a Jesus fish?
Do you know that it's because the Greek for fish is Ichthys, which is an acronym for Iesous Christos Theou Huios Soter (Jesus Christ, God's Son, Saviour)?
Do you know that the reason early Christians used such an acronym was as a kind of code, because they had to meet in secret to avoid persecution?
Sure sounds like a cult to me.

Yes, now apply that same logic to your own faith, and you'll understand why we think you're ridiculous.
And the ancient Hebrews were definitely a cult... Jesus' followers, assuming he even existed, were also a cult... since your religion is based off of those beliefs, Christianity very much DID begin with a cult.
my Goddess gave birth to your god.
btw, you guys can't have your own holy days. You just had to take the easy route and place them over our holy days. Glad to be of some help!
Just because you capslock something, doesn't make what you say right, and suddenly everyone else wrong.
And yes, certain factions and sects of Christianity are cults.
Hey man, fuck you. Odin will fuck your shit up. He hung himself on a tree by a spear for nine days just so he could hallucinate some cool symbols to define some concepts. He doesn't fuck around.
And I think Isis are a pretty cool god, eh revives her dead husband after he's cut to bits and doesn't afraid of anything.
@ArmandT:
You worship Priapus? :D
"Siestathedog" laughs over Isis and Odin.
I'm quite sure that "Siestathedog" will get very angry when somebody laughs over the belief that:
- A virgin gets pregnant by divine intervention (yeah, right)
- She gives birth to someone who is god ... but not quite god, rather the son of this god, but somehow he is also the whole god, and all of this is very mysterious.
- To make things even more complicated, its not only this father god and son god who are one god, there is also some strange force called the "holy spirit" getting into the enchilada, so we have now three gods who are mysteriously one god and three gods at the same time.
- This father god is quite angry at humans because they do bad things, and for this he sends his son god to earth, to get tortured and killed by humans. Mysteriously, this makes the bad things humans do not so bad anymore. But only for a human who makes a mental connection in his mind to this son god (called "faith").
- This son god comes back after he is killed (no problem for a god, anyway), and this should give humans hope. Why this is so is again very mysterious and unexplained.
- After a certain period, this son god will come back again, and this time he will be really, really pissed. To show his infinite grace and mercy, he will destroy the whole earth, condemmn everybody who has not made this mental connection for all eternity (regardless how many good things they have done in their life), and puts everybody who has made this mental connection (regardless how many bad things they have done in their life) into his "brave new world", where unhappiness is forbidden, and everybody is smiling and singing all day long.
How is this different from the crazy beliefs of a weird cult?
Siesta, once you truly understand how easy it is to dismiss Isis, Odn and Santa Claus you will understand why we dismiss your god. Try and figure that out, you are so close.
That's all right, Siesta. Isis still loves you. Odin, on the other hand, thinks you're a dick and you can go to Hel.
So let me get this straight. My gods are laughable, but yours must be taken seriously by everyone? Why must I respect your unprovable beliefs while you take a holy crap all over mine? Where does this unjustifiable sense of entitlement come from?
christianity was NEVER A CULT.
Oh really?
Funny, the Romans (the nice folks who made your religion possible by killing your precious messiah, and no, I'm not going to capitalize that word) thought that early Christians were depraved, baby-eating cannibals who frequently engaged in incest. Seriously. And they all had valid reasons for thinking this, from the viewpoint of their value system.
I mean, early Christians were secretive, worshipped in private (counter to how Romans viewed religion as a public affair), and forced new converts to cut off all contact with family. What part of that doesn't scream "cult"?
Oh, and they weren't secretive to avoid persecution (they would have loved that). They were secretive because Jesus told them to keep their trap shut. Gee, why can't you be more like the original Christians?
They've really convinced themselves that Cults are all dangerous and not Christian based, this is due to a campaign after the death cults of Jim Jones and the like to seperate themselves from those groups. With falsehoods like "those cults weren't Christian".
They were, most those death cults were born in the Bible Belt and recruited from the fundamentalists end-timer indoctrination that Jesus was coming back. The leaders are elevated to Messiah.
I remember seeing Christian "experts" brought on shows on the 70s and 80s to explain these cults and they always tried to claim the cult members were outcasts, loners or atheists. Real experts have studied todays cult communes and testimonies of deserters from death cults and provided the real evidence, Atheists are immune to that shit and these cults evolved directly from fundamentalists churchs.
You have to think there's a real spiritual leader or Messiah out there to end up following one that claims such.
As for Wiccans: Have they even had a death cult yet?
Confused?
