[On why the social construct of virginity exists]
Those other reasons include that not having a relationship out of marriage is something that God told us , and yes god told us tht men too stay virgins

As there were no paternity tests back then, marrying a virgin made it fairly certain that you were the parent of the child.
But, you could never be certain that he or she really was a virgin, as there is no conclusive test to determine virginity. Sure, if the hymen was still there, she's probably a virgin, but if not, she might have been born without one, or have lost it during sports or something. On men it's virtually impossible to determine.
So, if men are expected to stay virgins, why aren't there myths about how you can tell if a man is a virgin? I'm sure you can make up something just as arbitrary and (in)accurate as the "virginity tests" for women.
Please. I'm a virgin and let me tell you something: virginity and chastity are highly overrated. They're not virtues nor sins, they're just useless. Besides, doesn't god command us to multiply as much as we can? How can we do that if we're supposed to be as chaste as possible?
I say, have as much sex as you want, however you want, with whom you want, as long as it always remains consentual and safe. And there's not a religion in the 'verse that's going to convince me that (and pleasure in general) is bad.
Seriously, what is it with the Abrahamic religions and their sheer prudishness compared to most others?
P.S.: No, I'm not an incel *spiteful spit* . My virginity is not something that bothers me too much. But it does allow me to say the above from a more unbiased perspective.

And just who told you that God told "us" that? If it was God himself, why didn't it make Fox News?
It's hard to connect the dots when you're born with no lead in your pencil, isn't it Laa?
Edit: @ timjer: "Seriously, what is it with the Abrahamic religions and their sheer prudishness compared to most others?"
Some ancient asshole discovered that it's much easier to induce religious ecstasy in your drooling followers if you deny them sexual ecstasy.

Your 'God' committed Adultery with Joseph's betrothed, Mary.
Your argument is invalid. And in more ways than one.
The main reason many men want virgin brides is so they don't have to worry about being compared to other men, either in size, stamina or technique. If yours is the only penis your wife has seen, it's easier to convince her that your 4" is above average.
@Doubting Thomas, Swede, Churchy LaFemme
All those reasons are definitely the case.
I do feel that the reason Swede gave would've been a non-issue if inheritance/marital name changes/etc. was matrilinear.
Of course....again....related to Churchy LaFemme's reason, ancient guys were like the lackluster bighorns and....rather than work on being better bighorn head-butters, decided to rig the system for the "unfit" males can get the undeserved mates.
Now; It is TECHNICALLY the case that males stay chaste before marriage, too....but that said, it's still stressed more with the females.
Virginity is highly over-rated. <** reads comments, finds that a self-declared virgin said exactly the same thing. "Great minds", etc. **>
In earlier times it only mattered when a noble title was to be passed by heredity. Then, the duke or prince or whatever would really want to make sure that the child was his (well, to the best of his knowledge anyway...though I'm sure that bastards got in there sometimes). Since there are no more castles or kingdoms to be passed on in my family, it doesn't really matter.
@Demon Duck of Doom
They have cared?
