And I'm no trekkie, but even I know that "Beam me up, Scotty" was never uttered on that show. It was always something like, "Mr. Scott, two to beam up."

They seem to have latched on to a mistaken memory that Nelson Mandela had died earlier than he did. They take this as evidence that someone is manipulating the timeline, or "The Powers That Be" are controlling the news, or aliens, or any other bullshit they like. Further evidence of this is available by the fact that they also misremember The Berenstain Bears as being spelled "Berenstein".

And to make matters worse, the scene where Rick said "Play it again, Sam" has been altered!

Yeah it is weird that line was never said in Star Trek isn't it.
You know what was also never said? "Luke, I am your father."
There are actually a lot of examples of popular lines like that which were never said in their respective TV show or movie.

I think this might be the best demonstration of the conspiracist heuristic for which I would like to coin the term "Ockham's baldness cure"*, where a simple plausible explanation is rejected in favour of ever less plausible conjunction because it would mean one would be wrong.
*of course, it should be something"beard growth spray" or "fake beard", but I think baldness cure sounds better.
I don't know exactly why, but I find this stuff fascinating as hell. Not the mis-remembered lines as much, but the other little insignificant crap they claim was "changed"....I think one of the other popular ones is that "Jif" peanut butter was "Jiffy"....lol
This quote is the most beautiful example of the underlying driving force of almost all modern education: cover-your-butt-ism.
