[Also consult Numbers 31 where a whole tribe of people, including the elderly and children are slaughtered. The only survivors were the virginal women, who were later raped by the “just and perfect” Moses and his men. Is that what you want your children reading on Sunday?"]
Moses wasn't perfect. o_O He was a murderer. And I don't know, maybe rape wasn't a sin yet.

If there was a time when rape wasn't a sin, then your "God" is even more evil and cruel than I thought. In Numbers 31 your perfect, omni-benevolent "God" also condones genocide. Was that not a sin yet either? When was it that rape and/or genocide started being sins?
Why would an omni-benevolent, omniscient, omnipotent, good and loving "God" pick a mass-murdering, lying, rapist such as Moses to be his spokesman?
Well actually, it's parts like that that your children will never hear on sundays. Preachers will never talk about the parts of the bible where god condones rape, genocide, exc; just the parts that make him seem 'fair and just'. The bible can be christianity's worst enemy sometimes.
Is there any part of the Bible that says rape is a sin? Or is it just covered under adultery, which was definitely a sin while Numbers was going on, so ... ah, fuck it. How can people believe this shit?
Oh my!
Sadly there is actually an element of truth in this, but that merely goes to show that the concept of sin is something WE invented and happens to suit our general beliefs. i.e. There is no constant unguiding moral laws of God.
Actually since we're heading down this path, there is no God!
Murder was a sin according to the commandments delivered onto Moses long before the events of Numbers 31. So was adultery.
The fact is the Bible is full of this kind of crap. It's nothing more than a written justification for the atrocities committed by the early Israelites.
In short, God told us to do it, so it isn't a sin .
If people wish to base their lives on this book, the least they could do is read thoroughly.
And I don't know, maybe rape wasn't a sin yet.
So, rape was OK solely because God never said not to do it? And you say atheists can't be moral without God?
<<And I don't know, maybe rape wasn't a sin yet.>>
Perhaps your right. Seeing as how the whole fairy tale known as the Bible was made up as they went along, it could be that rape wasn't considered a sin in Moses' time.
But then again, why do I get the feeling that your name is just a shortened version of n(ARROW)ly (ED)ucated dumbass.
<Why would an omni-benevolent, omniscient, omnipotent, good and loving "God" pick a mass-murdering, lying, rapist such as Moses to be his spokesman?>
God didn't. Moses went on a killing spree and then appointed himself the messenger of God to justify everything. As we all know, it's the winner who writes history and as M. had killed off most of the opposition, there was no-one left to refute him.
You're right, rape had a different definition then. Continue your reading, and you find the 'Rape of Dinah'. In those days, the only females that could be raped, were Queens, or Princesses. Common folks just fucked.
Compare these folks, to the Vikings. They were concerned more with the order of operations, than the morality of war. (Norsemen learned early, that it is better to rape, pillage, and then burn)
<Nope, rape was a sin. What happened was Moses got "Special Dispensation" (see Catholic dogma).>
So some backwards nomad gets special dispensation to rape and murder, but a genius like me can't get special dispensation to take over the world? God is so playing favorites.
These are the same people who say that God is the same today, yesterday, and tomorrow, and that God never changes.
Well, he was not perfect, but God confided him the task of guiding the people. And it was a sin, only to be punished with money.
And you idiots call 21st century America the land of "moral decay?" Nobody is saying that everything's perfect now, but at least rape IS considered to be a crime and one punishable by law.
We can use this post as an example whenever a fundie goes off on how evil Muhammad was in comparison to the "saints" of the Bible.
Considering he preached "thou shalt not kill", it seems he was a hypocrite. Now who hated hypocrisy over all things?
And I don't know, maybe rape wasn't a sin yet.
Yes because we all know God's Perfect Word needs changing at times.
"Moses wasn't perfect. "
Moses never existed.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
