I am also very confused about why so many hardcore Christians seem to be hardcore proponents of gun owning as well.
If we disregard that this person seem to be illiterate enough not to understand the word "voluntary", it still scares me that the person equates "less guns on the streets" to "the government is scary".

He's got a point. I've seen similar programs happen here in Oz. Look up "Australian internet censorship". The Government (Lib) instituted it as a voluntary opt-in program. The new Government (ALP) went from making it voluntary opt-out to involuntary, server-level, blanket censorship. Or is trying to. I doubt it will pass the Senate.

@ doomie 22: Christianity as taught by Jesus is a peaceful religion. Christianity as used as a flag of convenience by people seeking to gain more power for themselves, not caring who they step on or indeed kill in the process, is another matter. The fundies are the spiritual successors of the Crusaders and the Reformation-era heretic-burners, which explains the historical revisionism of the Crusades being a defensive war (!) we saw recently.

And what is the sole purpose of guns? By owning one (or condoning their use), you're going against Scripture, therefore you're going to HELL!
Anyway, isn't that the 'government' you fundies VOTED for?! Barack Obama hasn't been sworn in yet (not for another 2 months). Although I hope after January 20th 2009 he really starts kicking the NRA where it hurts!
Um, to people who live and work in that neighborhood, drug dealers and gang-bangers with automatic weapons are scarier than any line of bullshit y'all can come up with. The fear is more, shall we say, immediate. I'm sure the decent, law-abiding people there consider a few less AKs on the street to be a very good thing.
