Up to the 1970's homosexuals and the gay movement were shunned by Western society. The act of "Sodomy" was still on the stutute books until the 70's and 80's, in fact the State of Tasmania in Australia was one of the last places to bow to preasure from UN Treaty demands and remove it from the books as a criminal offence.Banned in Islamic and Jewish communities throughout the world, in adherence of the words from Torah (Bible) and the Koran, and in these societies there is no epidemic of HIV Aids

Torah is not the same as the Bible...sigh. Damn fundies. The correct answer (kinda) is Talmud but even then there are distinct differences.
Besides, I thought we were all living under grace and that the OT laws no longer applied. You know, the whole covered by Christ's blood and such...mass confusion

Uh, Israel? The ONLY country in the Middle East that recognizes civil rights for gays and lesbians? And you did know that IRAN, IRAQ, SYRIA, YEMEN and SAUDI ARABIA have HIGHER RATES of HIV infections than Israel, right? You know, these Muslim countries where homosexuality is illegal and punishable by death?
Well, we covered Arabic countries - but don't forget Africa, which has some of the highest HIV rates in the world - and some of the largest Arabic populations too.
Yes, and also in adherence to these words they arrange marriages, suppress women, beat them, and publicly execute homosexuals and those found having sex outside of marriage. What wonderful countries! Why don't you go move there?
Of course, this is posted on youtube.
"in these societies there is no epidemic of HIV Aids"
there used to be no cases of AIDS in China either..
Until they stopped suppressing reports of rampant of HIV.
Funny how ignoring reality doesn't seem to do anything to alter it.
Places where the Qur'an is preached, Islam practiced, and shar'ia followed, there is an epidemic of HIV/AIDS. It has nothing to do with Islam, really, but poor medical and hygenic conditions. But the fact remains, this is a fail.

1. The majority of Africans are adherents of the Abrahamic religions: Islam and Christianity.

2. Although it is not correct to speak of a single African epidemic, Africa is without doubt the region most affected by the virus. Inhabited by just over 12% of the world's population, Africa is estimated to have more than 60% of the AIDS-infected population.

Christian theologians will burn your sorry ass for saying the Torah is the same as the Bible. Avoid churches from now on. Those theologians are a bloodthirsty lot.
And I've checked Teh Google about your statement and you are wrong.

I believe I'm right in saying that homophobia in the west only reached levels comparable to that in the first half of the 20th century somewhere in the 19th century - prior to that, it wasn't quite as bad as Victorian prudery made it. Though sodomy was illegal for some time before the Victorians, it wasn't exactly rigorously enforced.

Please, I know Europe doesn't matter that much to you, but could you try not to just completely IGNORE us?
*sigh* And yet, Tasmania is the only State in Australia to have a partnerships register for same-sex couples.
As to the timing, what of it? Further, the UN had nothing to do with Tasmania's decision - the UN generally does not interact with provincial/territorial governments. It reserves its interaction for the nation-state level.
Further, Arizona held sodomy laws on the books until 2001, as did Puerto Rico until 2005. Also, Israel (the sole Jewish state in the world) not only holds homosexuality to be legal, but holds same-sex and opposite-sex unions to be equal in such matters as immigration and adoption. However, you are absolutely right about Muslim countries. Of 57 Islamic states, only two (Turkey and Indonesia) have decriminalised homosexuality, with 13 holding the death penalty for it. And some of these countries have among the worst AIDS/HIV infection rates, although none of them reach Southern Africa's (another bastion of homophobia) levels. Intriguingly, Israel has one of the lowest.
In short, do your research before shooting you mouth off, you tool.
Actually, places that condemn homosexuality, particularly those that would condemn it by death tend to have RAMPANT HIV problems...As was mentioned, some merely ignore or suppress reports of it, but believe me...it's still there.
Yeah, and a lot of those Muslim countries stone every woman who's not a virgin on her wedding day, yet fail to do the same for the men. That sounds pretty odd, since HIV is more often transmitted by men than by women...
@ 861928:
In one state, slavery wasn't against the law until like 1998. If you go through statute books, you'll find some seriously fucked-up shit in some states (and supposedly "modern" countries). But that doesn't mean it's all enforced. Oftentimes the officials aren't even aware that certain laws even exist.
And there is no epidemic of AIDS in Australia either. As soon as it appeared there was a publicity campaign about it. Death using AIDS as a bowling ball and knocking down kids, adults, teenagers and so forth. Frightened the daylights out of some people and there was a bit of whining about scaring kids. The word "homosexual" got used on prime time television. That caused a bit of whining too. But there is no AIDS epidemic here.
Where AIDS is epidemic, it is mostly spread by heterosexual contacts.

I think it highly likely that you take the parochial view that 'Western society' consists primarily of the US.
A few facts for you:
Poland - homosexuality never criminalised in the first place
France - legalised in 1791
Denmark - 1933
Iceland - 1940
Sweden - 1944
Germany - 1957
Hungary - 1962
England & Wales - 1967
Canada - 1969
Even in the US, Illinois repealed the relevant law in 1962.
So, in the context of the modern Western world that leaves people like you pretty much in the minority. What's it like, persecuting another minority? Do you get off on it? Just be careful, because there are laws against that sort of thing...
Wait, are you telling me that Ethiopia(Christian, Jew and Muslim), Iran or most African countries where there is a large, if not the largest, proportion of HIV holders are not either Muslim or Jew?, And who prohibit often Homosexuality?, WTF?
Confused?
