Is atheistic terrorism worse than Islamic terrorism? Liberal denial prevents honest reporting on whether the Germanwings co-pilot who killed 150 passengers was an atheist.

I'm studying German again for the first time since high school, since my heritage is German and I'd like to visit there someday (it's also supposed to be an awesome country). So I just happen to have these facts handy...

According to Wikipedia, yes atheism is high in Germany; one study even found no one under about 30 believing in a God. Their statistics for irreglion are about 30%, the CIA backs them up.

My point being, even if atheism had something to do with this murder-suicide, that doesn't condemn Atheism-if no one under about 30 (my age) believes in a God, and you believe Atheism is evil, wouldn't Germany be a hellhole? As it is, due to its strong economy and high standard of living, (partly due to its oldest government-funded healthcare in the world,) it is the second-most traveled to destination for immigration in the world, after the United States...did your head just explode with that knowledge of awesomeness?

And for all of you who suffer from mental illness that requires medication, like myself (but for OCD, so I can do things like hold a job and just generally leave the house AT ALL) believe me, I know and probably most people know that 99.9% of people with depression would never do this. It's just that this one guy with depression and apparent narcissism who poisoned the well for everyone.

Andrew, thou art a cunt.

It doesn't matter if he was Atheist, Christian, jew or any other religious or non-religious persuasion.

He was chronically depressed, you dolt. People with severe depression do things that don't make a hell of a lot of sense sometimes, and I speak from experience on this. He also wasn't taking his antidepressants, which means his illness wasn't under control.

Chronic depression, loss of his relationship with his girlfriend and potential loss of his job due to a degenerative eye condition combined to become more than he could bear. He flew to the last place he remembered being happy and opted out, taking over a hundred others with him, which probably didn't even cross his mind given his mental state.

His religious beliefs or lack thereof didn't even factor in. Stop being a holier-than-thou asshole, Andy.

I doubt it was depression, even if he was depressed. Depressed people(those who are only depressed) want to kill themselves, not other people.

He said things such as that he wanted to be "remembered forever". That sort of obsession shows narcissism. His callous disregard for life shows likely psychopathy.

Blaming the depression is like blaming a cold for the death of a cancer patient, instead of the cancer.

Now depressed people will be afraid to seek treatment for getting fired from their jobs or stigmatized by people who think they are killers.

From what I could gleen from articles reporting on his blog entry (before it was deleted), it seems his logic was that the pilot spent time in Bremen while attending flight school, simply because the Lufthansa flight school is in Bremen. There is a extremist muslim mosque in Bremen, so it follows that the pilot automatically became a muslim suicide terrorist due to his stay in Bremen.

That logic even beats Shlafly in terms of crazy.

If he was, then so fucking what? No-one denies that atheists can commit acts of evil, but we do differ over whether those atheists commit such evil deeds because of their lack of belief. In this case, as it is with many other criminal acts committed by atheists, there is no evidence to suggest that he killed because of atheism. All the evidence, given by his medical record, internet history, and accounts given by his ex-girlfriend suggests that he had significant mental health issues unrelated to atheism, so under no rational discourse could this be described as "atheistic terrorism."

As already pointed out, that claim about Lubitz converting to Islam is unsubstantiated. Also, if he was Islamic it wouldn't prove that he was doing it under the name of Islam. It'd still be feasible for a Muslim to intentionally crash the plane for the same reasons that have been attributed to Lubitz's decision to down the plane
