About 12 years ago, during the Sago Mine disaster, news agencies released that some of the dying miners had left letters for their families.
Foreman Martin Toler Jr., who was being overcome by deadly fumes while trapped in the mine, wrote, “Tell all I’ll see them on the other side. It wasn’t bad. I just went to sleep. I love you Jr.”
Westboro Baptist Church, then under the aegis of Fred Phelps, responded to that note in particular by mocking Toler and his family; by claiming Toler woke up in hell' and that they rejoiced in god's judgments.
I can't find the specific press release where they mocked Toler, but a similar one is archived at Gateway Pundit.
As with the OP, that press release read, "God is not mocked."
Fast-forward eight years. Fred Phelps is dying in hospice after having been excommunicated by how own church. He had, by many accounts, finally pled for members to treat each other with more kindness. Instead, former acolyte Steve Drain engaged in what I'd describe as a coup that saw Phelps driven out; one where his most fervent defenders, daughters Margie Phelps and Shirley Phelps Roper, were silenced by Drain and his new boys' club.
Many of Shirley's children left the only faith their mother believes is true. The WBC still exists, having lost of many children and even more grandchildren of its original followers.
Their snickering cruelty made them famous. That same cruelty caused them to turn on each other like feral dogs.
They are getting out of life what they put into it, but the wise wouldn't rejoice in the fate of that church: Whether one believes the Bible is inspired or not, there's a passage in there that describes the activities of those who act in service to It:
Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold;
My chosen one in whom My soul delights.
I have put My Spirit upon Him;
He will bring forth justice to the nations.
He will not cry out or raise His voice,
Nor make His voice heard in the street.
A bruised reed He will not break
And a dimly burning wick He will not extinguish;
He will faithfully bring forth justice.

The OP knows nothing about Hawking's interior life and yet he, like so many other OPs here, couldn't even wait for the body to cool before expressing vapid joy at the idea of someone who disagreed with their faith being tortured forever by a "loving god."
The OP sees the Creator as an attack dog who agrees with him and who hates all the same people he does.
Hawking didn't mock It. He merely didn't believe in any gods. A lot of the OPs here lately, however, are mocking It openly in part by devaluing the lives of others and in part for their lack of gratitude in the face of Hawking's contributions to the sum of human knowledge.
