Say a state permits gay marriage, AND permits 15 year olds, with permission to marry from parents.
Now, a 40 yr old convicted pedophile man legally marries a 15 yr old boy in that state.
Provided you can get his parents to give permission for this union, sure, I guess this happened.

In your mythical world where parents consented to their 15 year old marrying a 40 year old, yeah, I guess so. I mean clearly, the parents have passed on their custodial duties to this man, he might as well have legal backing with it, too.

As has been said, they'd likely be clamoring for the age to be lowered still. Ephebophilia is what you're talking about, not pedophilia. both are icky, mind, but yeah.
Nothing will be prohibited including Sharia law multiple wives w/permitted canings; where can this end: Mormons demanding their religious rights to polygamy as well as crazies insisting on tying knots with good old mom and dad. None of that seems so far-fetched now.

No, see...the slope is not that steep at all. Informed Consent is the big one here. A minor cannot give informed consent. Even in your scenario, the minor himself cannot make the decision himself, he needs his folks to sign off on it. And after that, you need to answer to the genetic defects that incest can result in, for the "crazies insisting on tying knots with good old mom and dad."
