Men are *supposed* to be leaders.
Women keeping their last names just reminds me that as a whole, we're sissyfying the male race, then wondering why we're lost, we lack real men, we lack real leadership.

How exactly does this: "Women keeping their last names" equate to this: "we're sissyfying the male race" you half-wit (half-wit by the way is probably being too generous)?
Let me guess. You're one of those guys who thinks that unless you're a NASCAR watching, wrestling cheering, beer swilling, hairy, sweaty brutish behemoth who's either chasing women, hunting something unnecessarily, driving an oversized truck and working with power tools for a living then you aren't a *real* man. Am I right?
Guys like you, iklepac13, should slink back to the caves you came from or think of joining the 21st century with the rest of us.
Damn! I went to school, read good books, listened when wise people spoke and grew up to be a smart, kind and generous person. I'm such a failure as a man.
I think practicality suggests that tradition be followed and men keep their name and women change theirs. Hyphens get confusing, and how many generations can you expect to carry them on for before it becomes a major pain. It seems like since someone has to make the change why not keep with tradition. My last name is already fourteen letters long, no way am i going to hyphenate that.
That being said althoug I consider it impractical, i don't see how a woman keeping her name makes anyone a sissy.
Maybe we need a new tradition, a married couple chooses a new last name for both of them that is different from either of their old one's.
No, iklepac, it's because of the way people venerate Queen Victoria as the model of raising kids: obedient followers. And it's people like yourself who would follow an old bat like that who also thought that people should be covered in two layers of clothing from the neck down so she wouldn't betray Albert!
Funny, but I noticed that these "men" who complain about women's rigths, liberation and the "sissyfying" of the male "race" (that's as bad as male species), tend to be......chickenhawks.
I took my husband's last name because I got teased for my last name all my life (no, I'm not telling - let's just say it's easy to rhyme) and I don't like double-barrelled surnames.
But that's just me.
What do misogynists have against the idea of choice?
And, ryan, tradition is no reason to keep something.
This is the second time that I've visited the Men's Corner, and the second time I've been repulsed by some of the viewpoints there. It's also the umpteenth time I've heard or read something that's made me afraid to date Christian men, despite being a Christian myself.
This probably wasn't your intention, but your post is an equal opportunity offender in that it slanders both women and men. Men who don't repeatedly smack women around or taunt them are sissies? Yes, because nothing proves that a man is a man than his eagerness to crush the other half of the human race, the other half that gave him life to boot. We are part of the same species, idiot. Deal with it.
I see your point iklepac13 the male race must be kept pure. Therefore I would suggest that you and all the "real men" who agree with you from this day keep away from women and anything concerning them. Yes even sex and yes even for the sake of procreation, that ought to deal with the problem.
Also I wasn't aware of the existence of a "male race".
Wow, yeah, men that treat women as equals. Sounds like a real pack of namby-pamblies terrified of the female sex.
Oh, wait, no, that'd be you.
We did even more than that when we married. My husband took my last name, as his was a boring name like Anderson. My husband is certainly no sissy. And since when are males their own race?
We've had strong women leaders several times through history; Saint Bridget, Queen Christina, Queen Margareta, to name three.
I admire your Madeleine Albright, she seems like a very strong leader.
And what about Margaret Thatcher? She ruled the UK, with an iron fist, for eleven years. (I don't admire her that much, though...)
> Men are *supposed* to be leaders.
No, they aren't. Men and women are equal.
> male race
*insert lolwut here*
“Men are *supposed* to be leaders.”
I’ve worked for too many officers to think that there’s a ‘plan.’
“Women keeping their last names just reminds me that as a whole, we're sissyfying the male race”
Sissy? What are you, twelve?
My wife had more than a few accomplishments before we married and it would have made sense for her to keep it. Not part of a power-struggle with me.
“then wondering why we're lost, we lack real men, we lack real leadership.”
We have real leadership, you just obsess on their vaginas.
Confused?
