I know that the crowd I use to run with would see a woman with tattoos and piercings as a whore and a man as someone of a rebellious nature.

But in other circles, they aren't.
Seems to me that command is somewhat context-sensitive then. Even has overtones of assimilation. Go figure.
I bleach my hair periodically, I have a few piercings, and several tattoos. I could beat you in a match of morality any day of the week.

The Maori and other pure cultures hold tattooing or scarification as "proper" as the fundie his necktie. Oh, and modern urban culture accepts body decoration as free self-expression.

Well, I slept with a woman once who'd had almost her whole left breast tattooed and she was a, um, whore. So you could well have a point, although I neglected to ask her which version of the bible she preferred.
