And a black, heterosexual man can view it [gay marriage] as whatever he chooses to. When he stands before God to give an account, it won't be an issue of did you lay everything down to follow civil rights, but did you lay everything down to follow ME, Jesus Christ?
[If Jesus is against civil rights, forget it.]
Jesus is for honoring the Father. Don't think for an instance that a holy Jesus Christ would support that which is contrary to the One with whom He is One.
It may serve the purpose of men on this earth to collectively align themselves behind a cause because it appears to be a civl rights issue. But civil rights...all rights take a back seat to the Word of God.

Ok, here's how it goes...
I'm driving
Science and rational thought - you get shotgun
Government, society, personal rights - strap yourselves in in the back
Oppressive dogma - get in the trunk
"Jesus is for honoring the Father. Don't think for an instance that a holy Jesus Christ"
As opposed to an unholy Jesus Christ, I suppose.
"would support that which is contrary to the One with whom He is One."
Fundie double-speak.
"It may serve the purpose of men on this earth to collectively align themselves behind a cause because it appears to be a civl rights issue. But civil rights...all rights take a back seat to the Word of God."
So, we, that is, all of us including atheists, Xians, Mulsims, Hindus and those of other religions, have no rights if they are not spelled out in the fairy tales of ancient, desert tribesmen?
This actually isn't that far out there. They are just expressing the fact that they think people should be treated well because it's God's will, and not because people are deciding it's right. At least that's what I get from this out-of-context snippet. I suppose I could look up the rest but, ah, let's face it. There would be no point.
Sandman, this is part of a rant against gay marriage. When he says: "Don't think for an instance that a holy Jesus Christ would support that which is contrary to the One with whom He is One"...
he is referring to this which he posted earlier:
"But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people." Ephesians 5:3
His point is that Jesus hates gays as much as his father does.
Yes, in context, this was about the gay marriage debate. It did devolve into an argument about rights, because some posters got into it over whether gays were co-opting the "civil rights movement" from blacks - the typical crap that gets brought up. Zaac's contribution was to say the above - that civil rights don't matter if it's against God's will.
i wonder if the irony is lost on fundies that their positions on rights, gays, marriage, women, etc is oddly similar to the positions of islamic fundies like the taliban
Well, nobody can really say what is right and what is wrong. The 'right' and 'wrong' ideas are different for different people, and just because our views are different, doesn't automatically mean that they are correct. There is no 'correct' opinion on anything, so if people like this happen to have different opinions, we are not the ones to say whether they are right or wrong, we should just chuck them all in a pit and let them enjoy each other's company.
And don´t you think, remember that Jesus said something very clear on this subject, when his disciples were aggro against guys expelling devils, that he will be nagging white people for being SO MISERABLE TOWARDS HIS CHILDREN?. Remember, before you´re so sure he condemns homosexuality, that they are HUMAN BEINGS above all, and Christ was very clear on that point. JESUS NEVER MENTIONS ANYTHING ABOUT HOMOSEXUALITY.
Confused?
